Auggies fall short against Gusties

MINNEAPOLIS -- Gaining just 167 yards while surrendering 428, the Augsburg University football team dropped a 31-10 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest to visiting Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Gustavus scored the first 10 points of the game and dominated throughout, with 305 passing yards and 123 rushing yards, compared to 135 passing yards and 32 rushing yards for the Auggies. Augsburg was 1-for-12 on third-down conversions, compared to 7-of-13 for the Gusties. The Auggies turned the ball over three times -- on two fumbles and an interception -- and had three drives stall inside the Gustie 40-yard line.
• Augsburg's lone touchdown came on the final play of the first half, as  RJ Chakolis (JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Hopkins HS) scored his second defensive touchdown of the season, scooping up a fumble after a strip sack by Tayvion Gardner (SR, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) and scampering 72 yards for the score.
• Nathan Wangensteen (SR, Chisholm, Minn./Chisholm HS) hit a season-long 38-yard field goal midway through the fourth quarter for the Auggies' final points of the game.
• Caden Rodkewich (JR, New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS) completed 17-of-27 passes for 135 yards, with Ben Davis (JR, New Brighton, Minn./Fridley HS) catching four passes for 40 yards.
Jeremiah Moore (JR, Gilbert, Ariz./Chandler HS) rushed 16 times for 47 yards.
• Chakolis had 13 tackles (five solo) to lead the Augsburg defense, while Griffin Thom (JR, Coon Rapids, Minn./Coon Rapids HS) and Anselmo Marquez-Reagan Jr. (JR, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) had seven tackles each. 

FOR THE FOES
• Dylan Blount completed 25-of-31 passes for 305 yards and three touchdowns, with Dom Mathies catching six passes for 90 yards and two scores, and Jordan Wold catching eight passes for 133 yards and a touchdown. 
• Walker Hennen rushed 15 times for 77 yards and a touchdown.
• Bode Hogan had 10 tackles (three solo), and Max Olson had 1.5 sacks to lead the Gustie defense.
