Semanko scores 33, Auggies net 7th straight win

GALLATIN, Tenn. -- Behind a 33-point, 11-rebound double-double by JJ Semanko (FY, New Hope, Minn./Hopkins HS), the Augsburg University men's basketball team scored an 80-73 nonconference victory over Ramapo College on Friday afternoon at the Music City Classic, the Auggies' seventh straight victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The game was a tight one in the opening stages, but a 16-6 run over a 7:10 span gave the Augiges their first double-digit lead, 28-18 with 6:20 left in the first half. Augsburg led 41-31 at halftime, and extended the lead to 19 points. But the Roadrunners outscored the Auggies by a 27-10 margin to cut the advantage to 64-62 with 5:22 left. The Auggies outscored the Roadrunners 11-3 over the next 3:50 to keep control of the contest.
• Semanko claimed his fourth point-rebound double-double in his last five contests, scoring a season-high 33 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field and 9-of-12 from the free-throw line, adding 11 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a blocked shot. He has now scored in double figures in nine of his first 10 collegiate games.
Elias Batala (JR, Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) scored 10 points with three rebounds and two assists, and Isaac Rabaey (SR, Hastings, Minn./Hastings HS) scored 10 points with seven rebounds and three assists.
Hanif Muhammad (SO, Minneapolis, Minn./Breck HS) scored six points with four assists, three steals and three rebounds.
• Augsburg outrebounded Ramapo by a 36-32 margin, and took advantage of 20 offensive rebounds, scoring 23 second-chance points. The Auggies scored 25 points off of 22 Ramapo turnovers. 

FOR THE FOES
• Elijah Barlow led Ramapo with 26 points, adding four assists and two steals.
• Jalen Thomas scored 14 points with 10 rebounds.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg finishes its trip to Tennessee with a nonconference game against No. 2-ranked Randolph-Macon College (Va.) on Saturday (12/20) at 1 p.m.
