Softball drops twinbill at Gustavus

ST. PETER, Minn. -- Morgann Paaske (SR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) went 5-for-7 in the doubleheader with a home run and four RBI, and Lola Pilon (SO, Farmington, Minn./Mounds View Academy HS) hit two home runs and had six RBI, in Augsburg University's Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference softball losses at Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Paaske hit a solo home run in the third inning of the opening game, and drove in a run on an RBI single in the fifth inning, accounting for three of Augsburg's seven hits in the contest, which ended in the fifth inning due to the NCAA eight-run rule. She also pitched a complete game in the circle. 
• Grace Syson (SR, Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes Academy HS) singled and scored on Paaske's RBI single in the fifth inning, and Jayden Evenson (JR, Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee HS) reached base on a bunt single and scored on a fielder's choice by Pilon.
• Olivia Funk (SR, Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) hit a double for the Auggies in the first game.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Gustavus used a seven-run second inning to take command of the second game, pounding out 15 hits compared to the Auggies' eight.
• For the second straight doubleheader, Pilon had a two-home-run game, going 2-for-2 with five RBI. She hit a two-run homer in the first inning, a two-run homer in the third inning, and gained an RBI on a bases-loaded walk in the fourth.
• Paaske drove in a run on a single in the third inning, and Zoie Johnson (SR, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) doubled and came around to score on a groundout by Evelyn Schmidt (FY, Buffalo, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) in the fourth inning.
• Funk hit an RBI single in the sixth inning to cap the Auggie scoring.
• Torrie Rehder (SR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) scored three runs for the Auggies in the second game.

FOR THE FOES
• Caitlin Olafsson went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, hitting a double and triple for Gustavus in the first game.
• Carly Olson went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI in the second game.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg faces Concordia College-Moorhead in a MIAC doubleheader on Sunday (4/13) at 1 p.m. in Moorhead, Minn.
