Auggie softball gains split with Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. -- After being limited to three hits in the opener, the Augsburg University softball team exploded with an 18-hit attack in the second game, gaining a split of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Concordia College-Moorhead on Sunday.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg was limited to three hits in the first game -- singles by Lola Pilon (SO, Farmington, Minn./Mounds View Academy HS), Olivia Hennager (JR, Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley HS) and Jayden Evenson (JR, Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee HS).
• Morgann Paaske (SR, Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake Central HS) struck out one against two walks and five hits in a complete-game pitching effort.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• Augsburg pounded out a season-high 18 hits, with every batter in the lineup collecting at least one hit, and scored runs in every inning to end the game after six frames via the NCAA eight-run rule.
• Zoie Johnson (SR, Carlton, Minn./Esko HS) drove in four runs on a 2-for-5 day, hitting a three-run homer in the third inning and driving in a run on a single in the fifth frame.
• Paaske went 4-for-4 at the plate, scoring four runs and driving in three. She hit a two-run single in the third inning and had a run-scoring single in the sixth.
• Pilon went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBI, driving in runs on singles in the first and sixth innings.
Torrie Rehder (SR, Goodhue, Minn./Goodhue HS) went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, and Grace Syson (SR, Oshkosh, Wis./Lourdes Academy HS) went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Zoe Adkins started in the pitching circle and had a strikeout in three innings, and Olivia Funk (SR, Lewiston, Minn./Lewiston-Altura HS) finished the game with three strikeouts in three innings of relief.

FOR THE FOES
• Bayliegh Frye struck out nine against one walks in a complete-game pitching victory in the first game for Concordia.
• Kailee Falconer hit two doubles and scored two runs in the second game.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg travels to face St. Olaf College in a MIAC doubleheader on Wednesday (4/16) at 3:30 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
