Auggies split with MIAC-leading Royals

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University baseball team scored a doubleheader split with Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference-leader Bethel University on Tuesday afternoon, winning 9-4 and falling 3-0 at Parade Stadium.

GAME 1 HIGHLIGHTS
• The Auggies used a nine-hit attack to claim the first-game victory over Bethel, ranked No. 25 in the latest D3baseball.com national poll and receiving votes in the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III national poll.
Jake Pittelkow (JR, Roseville, Minn./Simley HS) started for the Auggies and threw 5.1 innings to improve to 3-2 on the season, striking out eight against one walk and seven hits. He had 50 strikes on his 84 pitches. Caleb Tays (SO, Blaine, Minn./Spring Lake Park HS) earned his second save of the year, pitching 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just two hits.
• Leading 5-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Auggies used a four-run frame to pull away for the victory. Drew Jenkins (JR, Farmington, Minn./Randolph HS) drove in Jorda Sivoravong (FY, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Osseo HS) on an RBI single, Andruw Vela (SO, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) plated Stanley Regguinti (JR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) on an RBI single, and Elijah Stewart (FY, Hopkins, Minn./Hopkins HS) hit a two-run double bto bring home Jenkins and Vela.
• Augsburg jumped on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning, as Jenkins and Vela walked, advanced a base on a throwing error, and Jenkins scored on a sacrifice fly by Josh Udelhofen (SR, Janesville, Wis./Janesville Craig HS).
• Two runs came across in the third, as Udelhofen hit a two-run double to bring in Sivoravong and Jenkins.
• The Auggies scored twice in the fourth, as Regguinti hit a two-run double to bring home Nick Hubbard (SR, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) and Aaron Jones (SO, Phoenix, Ariz./Desert Vista HS).
• Regguinti and Hubbard had two hits each for the Auggies.

GAME 2 HIGHLIGHTS
• The second game was a tight affair, with Bethel scoring a single run in the fourth inning and two more runs in the final frame. Augsburg had six base hits in the game, but stranded all six runners on-base.
Manny Weiss (JR, Marion, Iowa/Linn-Mar HS) pitched 8.1 innings and threw 105 pitches (69 strikes), striking out two against a walk and nine hits. Vincent Rupp (JR, Salt Lake City, Utah/Skyline HS) struck out one in relief.
• Hubbard hit two doubles for the Auggies, in the fifth and seventh innings. Jenkins also had two hits in the game for the Auggies.

FOR THE FOES
• Carson Christiansen went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in the first game for Bethel.
• Zach Thompson and Oran Hinkle had two hits each in the second game, with Joe Meurer collecting two RBI.

UP NEXT
• Augsburg faces North Central University (Minn.) in a nonconference doubleheader on Wednesday (4/30) at 3 p.m., with the games played at Reynolds Field at the University of Northwestern-St. Paul.
