Ponce scores twice, Auggies gain first win

MINNEAPOLIS -- Claiming her eighth multi-goal game in her Augsburg University career, Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) scored a pair of goals, both following free kicks from Avery Rich (SR, Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka HS), in the Auggies' 2-0 nonconference victory over Coe College on Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Augsburg 2, Coe (Iowa) 0
LOCATION: Edor Nelson Field, Minneapolis
RECORDS: Augsburg 1-1-0 overall, Coe 0-1-0 overall

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Ponce scored her first goal of the game in the 32nd minute, collecting a low free kick from 30 yards out by Rich in the center of the 18-yard box, spinning to her left and putting a left-footed shot past the goalkeeper and in the net.
• The second goal came in the 65th minute on a scramble in front off a Rich free kick from 25 yards out, which was saved by the Coe goalkeeper. Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) gained the ball on the rebound on the left edge of the six-yard box and tried to center the ball, but the goalkeeper deflected the ball back to Hookom. She then flipped the ball back through the six-yard box, and Ponce smacked the loose ball in the net from the right edge.
• Augsburg outshot Coe by an 18-5 margin, with a 9-1 edge on shots on-goal. Ponce had four shots, while Hookom, Lennon Folstad (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS), Abby Rosebur (SR, South St. Paul, Minn./South St. Paul HS), Kaidin Camp (SR, Robbinsdale, Minn./Cooper HS) and Amalia Lee (SO, Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee HS) had two shots each.
• Tess Enlow (SR, Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) had one save in goal for her first career shutout.
