WINONA, Minn. --
Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS) scored a pair of goals in the opening 8:07 of play, to become the third Augsburg University women's soccer player in school history to reach the 100-point career plateau, as Augsburg topped host Saint Mary's 2-0 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Auggies drew a penalty kick just 46 seconds into the game, as
Lennon Folstad (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Central HS) gained the ball following a Saint Mary's free kick and fed the ball forward to Ponce, who was taken down by a defender in the 18-yard box. Ponce convered her second penalty kick of the year and seventh of her career to give the Auggies a 1-0 lead.
• Ponce scored the second goal for the Auggies in the ninth minute, collecting a long pass from
Phoebe Alva Rosa (SR, Jackson, Wyo./Jackson Hole HS) following a free kick from midfield, and slamming the ball to the low left corner from the penalty spot.
• Goalkeeper
Claire Smothers (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) was solid in the frame, claiming her first collegiate solo shutout with a four-save effort.
• The Auggies were outshot by a 10-8 margin in the game, but had six shots on-goal to the Cardinals' four. Augsburg also held off seven Saint Mary's corner kicks in the game.
• Ponce had four shots in the game, while
Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) had two shots.

• The two-goal effort marked Ponce's 10th career multi-goal game and third of the season. In 62 career games as an Auggie, Ponce now has 37 goals and 27 assists for 101 career points, moving into third place in school history in career points. Ashley St. Aubin (2016-19) holds the school's points record with 173 (71 goals, 31 assists), with Olivia Muyres (2011-14) second with 119 (46 goals, 27 assists).
• Ponce is now tied for fourth in school history in career goals, and tied for fourth in career assists.
