HOW IT HAPPENED
• Augsburg held control of the run of play throughout the game, claiming a 63-to-37-percent possession advantage. The Auggies outshot the Falcons by a 13-12 margin, including a 6-4 edge in shots on-frame.
• The Auggies jumped in front in the ninth minute, as Carver Tierney (SR, Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season, scoring on a rebound off of a blocked shot by Christopher Plaza Alvarado (SO, New Brighton, Minn./St. Anthony Village HS). Tierney's 10 goals are now tied for the lead among Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players nd also tied for the most among NCAA Division III players nationally. His 24 points are also tied for the MIAC and national lead.
• Diego Veit (SR, Vina Del Mar, Chile/Centro Educacional de Adultos Rafael Sotomayor) scored his first goal of the season in the 67th minute, collecting a pass from Mitchel Munzing (SR, Portland, Ore./Grant HS) to the left wing and firing a rising blast to the top right corner of the net.
• Asher Johnson (JR, Waconia, Minn./Waconia HS) scored his first goal in an Augsburg uniform on a free kick in the 82nd minute. From just outside the top right corner of the 18-yard box, Johnson sent a rising shot that deflected off a defender in a two-man wall to the left side of the net.
• Twenty-four different Auggies were able to see action in the nonconference contest. Munzing had three shots and Viet had two shots for the Auggies.
• Christian Hodges (FY, New Albany, Ohio/Tree of Life Christian School) claimed his seventh solo shutout of the season, improving to 10-0-0 with a four-save effort. He now has a 0.20 goals against-average and .957 save percentage, with 45 saves on 47 shots on-goal.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
• Augsburg's 10-0-0 start to this season now ties the second-longest winning streak in the 58-season history of the men's soccer program. Augsburg went 11-0-0 to start its 1973 MIAC championship season (12-2-0 overall, 11-1-0 MIAC), and went 10-0-0 to start its 1975 MIAC title campaign (15-2-1 overall, 12-1-1 MIAC).
• The 10-game unbeaten streak is now tied with the 1975 streak for the fourth-longest in program history, behind the 11-0-0 streak in 1973, a 14-game unbeaten streak (11-0-3) in the 1980 MIAC title season (11-1-3 overall, 9-0-3 MIAC), and a 16-game streak (10-0-6) in the 1978 season (10-1-6 overall, 8-0-4 MIAC).
• Augsburg, ranked No. 5 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III national rankings, has now outscored its opponents by a 31-2 margin.

QUOTES FROM AUGSBURG COACH GREG HOLKER
• "That wasn't our best performance, but River Falls made it difficult with their incredible and relentless work rate. We started off very much on the front foot, scoring early and dominating the ball, but as the half wore on, the location of the game shifted more to the middle third. They created some good chances that we survived, and if one of those falls, there is a whole new level of stress and struggle to deal with."
• "Diego's goal was a screamer, and came at a time when we needed some reprieve from their pressure. It was a pivotal moment, because after that, our own defensive pressure increased and we turned the game back in our favor before Asher finished it off with a free kick from the top corner of the box. When he hit it, it caught a slight deflection and the goalkeeper was already committed to the original spot, so there was nothing he could do."
• "A 3-0 win reads more secure than it actually was, but once again we kept a clean sheet in the back. To be 10-0 with a week to recover here before the October push is really impressive. We've set a high bar, and it will be up to us to meet it and exceed it moving forward, because we know we will get every opponent's very best each time we play."

FOR THE FOES
• Josh Bates had three saves in goal for UW-River Falls.
• Sorel Richardson had four shots for the Falcons.

UP NEXT
