Auggies shut out by Wildcats

MINNEAPOLIS -- Outshooting the hosts by a 16-5 margin, St. Catherine University claimed a 2-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer victory over Augsburg University on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• St. Catherine scored twice in the opening 21 minutes of play with a goal in the 13th minute and another off a penalty kick in the 21st minute. The Wildcats outshot the Auggies by an 11-3 margin in the first half and a 5-2 margin in the second half, and controlled possession by a 58-to-42-percent margin. Augsburg was unable to mount sustained attacks against the Wildcats' tight marking defense throughout the game, recording just one shot on-goal, by Jayla Ponce (SR, Kuna, Idaho/Kuna HS).
Claire Smothers (SO, Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City HS) had six saves in goal for the Auggies.
Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) had two shots in the game.

FOR THE FOES
• Bella Meier scored form Emily Olson in the 13th minute for St. Catherine, with Natalie Pfleger scoring on a penalty kick in the 21st minute.
