Auggie women fall short against Bennies

MINNEAPOLIS -- Sydney Hazuga (JR, Eau Claire, Wis./Memorial HS) scored a season-high 20 points for Augsburg University, but the Auggies fell just short in a 78-70 decision to the College of Saint Benedict in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball contest on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• The Bennies led by as many as 19 points in the contest, but nearly every Saint Benedict run was matched by an Auggie comeback. The Bennies hit 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the field, compared to 42.2 percent (27-of-64) for the Auggies. Saint Benedict outrebounded Augsburg by a 43-34 margin, with 12 offensive rebounds turned into 15 second-chance points.
• Hazuga connected on four 3-pointers as part of her 20-point effort, adding three rebounds.
Jada Stanford (SO, Brooklyn Park, Minn./Champlin Park HS) scored a season-high 17 points, adding a season-high nine rebounds.
• Saylor Gallagher (JR, Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) scored 15 points with two steals, and Wakinyela Bear (SR, Morrison, Colo./Mewkwaki (Iowa) HS) scored eight points with six assists, three steals and five rebounds. Melanie Delestrez (SR, Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens HS) scored six points with six rebounds, five assists and two steals.

FOR THE FOES
• Lauren Arnold scored 19 points with three rebounds and two assists to lead Saint Benedict.
• Megan Morgan scored 16 points with 10 rebounds, eight assists and two blocked shots.
