Auggies beaten 6-1 by Saint John's

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University men's hockey team fell to Saint John's University 6-1 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game on Friday at Ed Saugestad Rink. The Auggies managed a power-play goal in the second period, but could not overcome the scoring efforts of Saint John's, who netted six goals on 40 shots.

GAME RECAP
The first period began with Augsburg establishing early control by winning the faceoff. Despite facing consistent pressure from Saint John's, Augsburg's defense, led by Carsen Stokes in goal, thwarted multiple attempts, including a blocked shot by Duke Kiffin. Augsburg had several offensive opportunities, but Jon Howe consistently denied their efforts on goal. Saint John's managed to break the deadlock at 16:23, with Carter Krenke scoring on an even-strength play assisted by Michael Spinner.

Saint John's extended its lead just eight seconds into the second period, when Tyler Smith scored with an assist from Jackson Borst, making it a 2–0 game. Augsburg responded with pressure, eventually capitalizing on a power play at the 6:47 mark, when Ryan Comishock netted a goal with assists from Nolan Nenow and Zachary Reim, reducing the deficit to 2–1. With this assist, Zachary Reim is now tied for the Auggies' lead in assists with 17. Despite this momentum, Saint John's regained control, and at the 17:06 mark, Jackson Bisson scored a power-play goal assisted by Jack Wandmacher, restoring the two-goal advantage. The period concluded with Saint John's ahead 3–1, despite numerous attempts by Augsburg to close the gap.

Augsburg began the third period with intensity, winning multiple faceoffs early but struggled to convert their efforts into goals. Despite maintaining pressure, Augsburg's attempts, including shots by Duke Kiffin and Nick Catalano, were consistently thwarted by Saint John's goalie Jon Howe. Saint John's capitalized on their opportunities, scoring three times in the period, starting with Conner Couet's unassisted goal at 4:48. Augsburg called a timeout after Tyler Smith extended the lead to 5-1 at 7:05. Chris Kernan capped the scoring for Saint John's with a goal at 14:30.
