Auggies open outdoor season in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Augsburg University men's and women's track and field teams opened their outdoor seasons over the weekend with competition at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium. The meet featured 45 teams from around the country, including numerous NCAA Division I and Division II teams.

MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Shawn Huberty (FY, St. Paul, Minn./Washington Tech Magnet HS) had the best individual finish for the Auggies, placing fifth in the men's open high jump with a 1.88-meter (6-feet-2.0) clearance -- the third-highest clearance in Augsburg history.
• Henry Nelson (SR, St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) finished in 18th place in the collegiate-division mile run, running a personal-best 4:38.68. He also recorded a 2:06.73 time in the 800-meter run.
Paul Yang (SO, St. Paul, Minn./Washington Tech Magnet HS) recorded an 11th-place finish in the open mile run, setting a personal-best 4:56.59 time. He also competed in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:12.29.
D'Vante McElroy (FY, Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS) competed in three field events on the weekend -- throwing 24.19 meters (79-feet-4) in the discus, 28.77 meters (94-feet-4) in the javelin and jumping a personal-best 13.53 meters (44-feet-4.75) in the triple jump.
• Tyler Anderson (FY, Burnsville, Minn./Apple Valley HS) finished in 1:01.35 in the 400-meter hurdles and 2:07.39 in the 800-meter run. 
Jamir Horton (SO, Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS) finished in 17.23 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles and 1:00.89 in the 400-meter hurdles.
• Vicente Bolivar (FY, Bennett, Colo./Kiowa HS) recorded a 5.65-meter (18-feet-6.50) effort in the long jump.
• Falens Byron (SO, Naples, Fla./Palmetto Ridge HS) finished in 11.43 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.89 seconds in the 200-meter dash. 
• Foster Mulvehill (JR, New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) finished in 11.52 seconds in the 100 and 23.72 seconds in the 200. Nahom Negassie (FY, Minneapolis, Minn./Hopkins HS) ran 11.82 seconds in the 100. Evan Bitengo (SO, Coon Rapids, Minn./Anoka HS) ran 24.44 seconds in the 200 and 54.97 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
• Augsburg competed in three men's relays on the weekend. The 4x100-meter relay of Byron, Mulvehill, Negassie and Horton finished in 44.07 seconds. Augsburg had two entries in the 4x400-meter relay, with the quartet of Bitengo, Hortaon, Negassie and Anderson finishing in 3:35.78, and the quartet of Yang, Byron, Nelson and Mulvehill finishing in 3:36.02.

WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS
Allison Hookom (SR, Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS) recorded a 14th-place finish in the 400-meter dash, finishing in 58.96 seconds. She also finished 28th in the 400-meter hurdles, with a 1:12.29 time. Emaire Greene (FY, Jacksonville, Fla./Bishop John J. Snyder HS) also competed in both events, finishing in 1:08.28 in the open 400 and 1:18.64 in the 400 hurdles.
Ta'Kia Campbell (JR, Eagan, Minn./Burnsville HS) competed in both the 100-meter dash (13.84 seconds) and 200-meter dash (29.43 seconds) for the Auggies.
• Alwena Brix (SO, Plouay, France/Lycee Jean Mace, Rennes) recorded a 2:38.90 time in the 800-meter run and 5:57.57 time in the mile run.
