STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Augsburg University baseball team split a nonconference doubleheader against Buena Vista University (5-12) on Tuesday at BVU/SL HS BB Field, securing a commanding 20-4 victory in the first game before falling 14-4 in the second.

GAME 1 RECAP
In the first game, Augsburg tallied 14 hits and 17 RBIs, highlighted by an eight-run third inning and a nine-run sixth inning. The offensive surge began in the top of the second, when
Aaron Jones started the momentum with a single through the left side. Following a walk by
Harrison Boughton and a single by
Ezra Griffin, Jones scored, putting Augsburg on the board.
Stanley Regguinti followed with a two-RBI single, bringing in Boughton and
Stuart Hellie. The Auggies led 3-0 after two innings.
Augsburg expanded its lead significantly in the third inning.
Andruw Vela opened the scoring with a single up the middle, driven home by
Jack Huberty's double. Hellie and Griffin contributed with RBIs from fielder's choices. A wild pitch allowed Griffin to score, followed by Regguinti's RBI double and Vela's RBI double. Huberty capped the inning with a two-RBI single, extending the Auggies' lead to 11-0 through three innings.
The sixth inning saw Augsburg continue its dominance with Hellie doubling to bring home Boughton, while walks and wild pitches added further runs. Hellie delivered a three-RBI triple, and
Luke Weisjahn's single brought in another. The Auggies led 20-0 after six innings, before Buena Vista responded in the seventh with four runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Kaden Struck, but it was not enough to challenge Augsburg's commanding lead. The game concluded with Augsburg claiming a 20-4 victory.
Jake Pittelkow delivered a standout performance, pitching 6 innings without allowing a run. He permitted only 3 hits and struck out 3 batters while issuing 2 walks, managing an efficient 68 pitches, with 45 going for strikes.
Stanley Regguinti made a significant impact by scoring two runs, recording three hits, and driving in three runs, including a double.
Jack Huberty also contributed with two hits and three RBIs, adding a double to his performance.
Stuart Hellie was pivotal with three runs scored, two hits, and five RBIs, which included both a double and a triple.
Augsburg's 20 runs marked its most in a single game since scoring 20 runs in a 20-2 win over Sul Ross State (Texas) on March 14, 2016, in Tucson, Ariz.
GAME 2 RECAP
In the second game, Augsburg managed to collect seven hits, including a double, scoring in three different innings.
Stanley Regguinti was hit by a pitch to start the game and later scored on a fielding error, giving Augsburg an early lead. However, Buena Vista responded, tying the game 1-1 by the end of the first inning.
Buena Vista took control in the second inning, scoring eight runs on eight hits, including a three-run homer by Dylan Johnson, making it 9-1. A solo home run by Teagen Kasel extended the Beavers' lead to 10-1 in the third inning. Augsburg held Buena Vista scoreless in the fourth but trailed 10-1. The Beavers added two more runs in the fifth, capitalizing on a balk and an RBI single, increasing their lead to 12-1.
In the sixth inning, Augsburg's offense showed some life.
Drew Jenkins and
Andruw Vela both scored on a single by
Jack Huberty, cutting the deficit to 12-3. Augsburg added another run in the seventh when Jenkins singled to drive in
Ethan Hathaway, but Buena Vista scored two more runs in its half, securing a 14-4 victory.
Vincent Rupp started on the mound for Augsburg, allowing nine hits and eight earned runs in 1 2/3 innings.
Will Haverly entered in relief, giving up three hits and two earned runs in 2/3 of an inning, including two home runs.
Nolan Readmond provided stability, pitching 1 2/3 scoreless innings without allowing a hit, striking out two batters, and issuing one walk. Tanner Lissman contributed one inning of relief, surrendering one hit and two earned runs, while
Baxter Heino closed with a solid performance, pitching a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
Drew Jenkins recorded two hits and drove in a run, while
