NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Augsburg University baseball team faced a tough Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Carleton College on Sunday at Mel Taube Field, suffering narrow losses in both games, with final scores of 8-7 (8 innings) and 10-9.

GAME 1 RECAP
In the first game, the Auggies' offense tallied 11 hits, with
Drew Jenkins contributing two RBIs. Augsburg took an early lead in the second inning when
Jack Huberty, who reached base on a walk, advanced to second on a groundout and then to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a fielding error, putting the Auggies ahead 1-0. In the third inning, Augsburg extended its lead with
Stanley Regguinti singling up the middle and advancing on a sacrifice from
Jorda Sivoravong. After
Andruw Vela was hit by a pitch, Jenkins singled through the right side, bringing Regguinti home, followed by Huberty's RBI single to right center, scoring Vela and extending the lead to 3-0 after three innings.
Augsburg added two more runs in the fourth.
Derek Tomalak doubled down the left-field line and scored on a two-RBI single to right center by Sivoravong, which also brought Regguinti across the plate, giving the Auggies a 5-0 lead. However, Carleton scored its first run in the sixth inning, and then tied the game in the seventh inning with a series of hits and a costly error, making it 5-5. Augsburg regained the lead briefly in the eighth with runs from
Ethan Hathaway and Regguinti, but Carleton responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning, securing an 8-7 lead that held through the ninth inning.
Austin Lang pitched 6 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits while striking out 8 batters.
Caleb Tays surrendered 3 earned runs on 3 hits, and
Vincent Rupp allowed 3 earned runs on 5 hits in 1 1/3 innings. Regguinti scored two runs, collected two hits, and added an RBI, while Sivoravong drove in two runs. Tomalak recorded three hits, including a double, and Hathaway also contributed with a double and an RBI.
GAME 2 RECAP
In the second game, Augsburg fell short in a high-scoring affair against Carleton. The Knights took an early lead in the first inning with an RBI single by Sam Gossard. In the third inning, the Auggies capitalized on a Knights error to score three unearned runs, with Regguinti driving in Tomalak and Huberty extending the lead to 3-1. However, Carleton retook the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs, and extended their lead in the fifth inning with four runs, including a two-RBI triple by Tyler Vandersall.
Augsburg responded in the sixth inning with an explosive four-run effort, highlighted by
Ethan Hathaway's leadoff triple. Despite tying the game at 8-8, Carleton edged ahead with a two-RBI double by Vandersall, moving the score to 10-8. In the seventh inning, the Auggies added a run on a fielder's choice by Jenkins, closing the gap to 10-9, but could not overcome the deficit.
Manny Weiss pitched 4 innings, allowing 7 hits and 5 runs, while
Nolan Readmond and
Will Haverly contributed in relief. Regguinti delivered a standout performance with four hits and two RBIs, while
Jorda Sivoravong scored two runs and Jenkins contributed two RBIs.
