Pittelkow powers split with Saints

DULUTH, Minn. -- The Augsburg University baseball team Augsburg University split a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader against the College of St. Scholastica on Wednesday, securing a 4–1 victory in the first game before falling 10-0 in seven innings in the second.

GAME 1 RECAP
In the first game, Augsburg pitcher Jake Pittelkow limited the Saints to seven hits and one run while striking out five in seven innings.Ā Pittelkow pitched a complete game for the Auggies, delivering 7 innings with 99 pitches, 64 of which were strikes. He allowed 7 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 5 batters and issuing just 1 walk, showcasing efficiency and control throughout his outing.

St. Scholastica opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI single from Max Israel, bringing Markus Isaiah home after he had stolen second base, giving the Saints an early 1–0 lead. The Auggies responded in the second inning with a three-run rally. Aaron Jones singled and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Jorda Sivoravong's two-RBI single to center field, which also brought home Harrison Boughton. Andruw Vela followed with an RBI single down the left field line, scoring Stanley Regguinti and putting Augsburg ahead 3–1 through two innings.

The game remained scoreless through the next few innings until Augsburg extended its lead in the seventh. Stanley Regguinti singled and advanced to third, eventually scoring on a sacrifice fly by Drew Jenkins, pushing the Auggies' advantage to 4-1.Ā Regguinti crossed home plate twice, Sivoravong drove in two runs, and Vela collected three hits and one RBI.

GAME 2 RECAP
Augsburg was limited to four hits in the second game, while the Saints tallied 15 hits, including four doubles.

St. Scholastica took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Damian Tamayo Vera singled to left center, driving in Luke Krull, who had doubled earlier. The Saints extended their lead with two runs in the fifth, as Markus Isaiah scored on a single by Max Israel, followed by Tamayo Vera crossing the plate, making it 3-0 through five innings. In the sixth inning, St. Scholastica added three more runs with Tommy Crupi, Tyler Tiedeman, and Markus Isaiah all scoring on a double by Tamayo Vera, increasing the lead to 6-0 after six innings.

The Saints continued their offensive momentum in the seventh inning, scoring four additional runs. Ephram Lanz and Tommy Crupi both scored on a single by Kellan Graning, and Tyler Tiedeman added another run, followed by Luke Krull's RBI double.

Vincent Rupp pitched 5 2/3 innings for the Auggies, allowing six earned runs on nine hits while striking out three batters and issuing three walks. Jack McCabe came in for relief, pitching 2/3 of an inning but conceded four earned runs on four hits with one walk. Drew Jenkins collected two hits in the second game, making him a key contributor to the team's offense, while Aaron Jones added a hit to his performance at first base.Ā
