10-run inning sinks Auggies against Eagles

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Augsburg University baseball team fell to Northwestern-St. Paul 18–5 in seven innings in a nonconference game on Thursday night at Parade Stadium. The Auggies managed five runs and five hits, highlighted by a four-run fourth inning, while Northwestern capitalized on 11 hits and 18 total runs, including a decisive 10-run first inning.

GAME RECAP
Northwestern took a commanding lead in the first inning, scoring ten runs. Tony Greco's grand slam was the highlight, driving in four runs. In the fourth inning, Augsburg responded. Jorda Sivoravong reached on an error, followed by Andruw Vela's double. Drew Jenkins walked to load the bases. Aaron Jones then doubled to drive in two runs, and Stuart Hellie singled to bring in two more. 

Northwestern added two more runs in the fifth on a two-RBI single by Caleb Hautajarvi, extending its lead to 12-4. The sixth inning saw Northwestern score four additional runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from Parker Huebsch. In the seventh, Augsburg got on the board again. Michael Monson walked and was replaced by Kell Piggott on a fielder's choice. Ethan Hathaway walked, and Paul Dylong singled to drive in Piggott.

Augsburg's pitching staff faced challenges against the Eagles. Dylan Waukazo started on the mound, allowing two earned runs without recording an out, leading to an early deficit. Jacob Henry followed, conceding five earned runs over just 1/3 inning, including a home run. Will Haverly provided some stability by pitching one inning, giving up one hit and striking out one. Baxter Heino delivered the most innings for Augsburg, pitching three innings with two walks and one strikeout, while allowing two runs. Tanner Lissman closed with 1 1/3 innings, striking out three but also allowing two earned runs on three hits.

Aaron Jones led Augsburg with two RBIs and added one run and one hit, including a double. Stuart Hellie also contributed with two RBIs and one hit. Andruw Vela recorded one run and one hit, which was a double. Paul Dylong made an impact as a pinch hitter with one RBI and one hit.

Looking ahead, Augsburg is set to host Concordia College-Moorhead in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 18 at 1 p.m. at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis.
