Pitching gems power Auggie sweep of Cobbers

MINNEAPOLIS -- Behind solid pitching performances in both games, the Augsburg University baseball team secured two Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victories over Concordia College-Moorhead on Sunday at Parade Stadium, winning 4-1 in the first game and shutting out the Cobbers 5-0 in the second game.

GAME 1 RECAP
In the first game, Augsburg capitalized on Concordia's two errors, scoring three runs in the second inning to establish an early lead. Drew Jenkins initiated the scoring with a walk, advancing to second on Derek Tomalak's single. A throwing error by the pitcher allowed Jack Huberty to reach base and brought Jenkins and Tomalak across the plate. Stuart Hellie reached first on a shortstop error, scoring Huberty to make it 3–0 after two innings. 

Augsburg extended its lead in the sixth inning. Jenkins walked and moved to second on Tomalak's sacrifice bunt. Jack Huberty's single pushed Jenkins to third, and Aaron Jones followed with an RBI single to left center, bringing Jenkins home for a 4–0 lead through six innings. Concordia managed to score in the seventh when Jake Gruebele was hit by a pitch, advanced to second, and scored on Luke Knudsen's single to center field, narrowing the gap to 4–1.

Austin Lang delivered a strong performance on the mound, pitching 6 innings with 8 strikeouts while allowing only 1 earned run on 4 hits. Lang threw 121 pitches, 72 of which were strikes, and secured the win to even his season record at 1-1. Nick Allbee contributed with a solid relief effort, pitching 1 inning and allowing just 1 hit while also hitting a batter. Jenkins crossed home plate twice and drew two walks. Tomalak contributed with a hit, scored a run, and stole a base. Jones added a hit and drove in one run.

GAME 2 RECAP
In the second game, pitcher Manny Weiss threw a complete game, allowing six hits while striking out eight and walking only one batter, keeping Concordia scoreless. Making his 36th career pitching appearance and 11th start, Weiss achieved his first collegiate complete game and first career shutout. He threw 113 pitches, with 73 of them going for strikes, earning his second win of the season to improve to 2-1

The scoring began in the third inning when Ethan Hathaway walked and Jorda Sivoravong singled, setting up Andruw Vela's RBI single. Sivoravong scored on a throwing error, giving Augsburg a 2-0 lead after the third inning. In the seventh inning, Vela doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Huberty, extending the lead to 3-0. The Auggies added two more runs in the eighth inning. Stanley Regguinti singled and scored on a Derek Tomalak RBI single, followed by Vela scoring on Huberty's RBI single, bringing the score to 5-0. 

Regguinti recorded three hits in the game, contributing significantly to Augsburg's offensive efforts. Vela tallied two runs and added three hits, including a double, further boosting the team's scoring. Huberty drove in two runs, showcasing his effectiveness at the plate.
