ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Augsburg University baseball team faced a challenging Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader against Macalester College on Wednesday at Nicholson Field, suffering two close losses: 2-1 in the first game and a high-scoring 17-16 loss in the second.

GAME 1 RECAP
In the first game, Augsburg managed to tie the game in the sixth inning with a single run but ultimately could not overcome the Scots' two-run third inning. Macalester took the lead in the third inning when Nathan Gumagay doubled to right field, followed by Holden Peacock's single, setting up John McMurray's two-RBI single to center. The Scots led 2–0 after three innings.
The Auggies responded in the sixth when
Derek Tomalak was hit by a pitch, and
Jack Huberty reached on an error, advancing Tomalak.
Stanley Regguinti delivered a crucial RBI single to right field, bringing home Huberty.
Jake Pittelkow pitched a complete game for the Auggies, going six innings and allowing 2 earned runs on 6 hits, striking out 6 batters and walking 1.

Derek Tomalak was hit by pitches twice and successfully caught two stealing attempts.

GAME 2 RECAP
In the second game, the Auggies tallied 15 RBIs and drew 14 walks, but the Scots capitalized on their 16 hits to secure the narrow victory. Macalester took an early lead in the second inning, scoring four runs, capitalizing on a throwing error and a passed ball.
Augsburg got on the board in the fourth inning when
Jack Huberty and
Kell Piggott scored on a fielding error. However, Macalester responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning, extending its lead to 10-2. The Auggies surged in the fifth, scoring nine runs, with
Aaron Jones and
Drew Jenkins driving in runs and Huberty capping the rally with a two-RBI double, bringing Augsburg to a close 15-11 deficit. The scoring continued in the sixth as
Andruw Vela drove in two runs with a single. In the seventh,
Stuart Hellie scored on a fielder's choice, reducing the deficit to 17-15. The eighth inning went scoreless for both teams, maintaining the tension. In the ninth,
Stanley Regguinti scored after
Jack Huberty was hit by a pitch, narrowing the score to 17-16, but the Scots held on for the win.
Vincent Rupp started on the mound for Augsburg, pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowing five earned runs on six hits, while striking out one.
Nick Allbee gave up two earned runs on one hit and two walks.
Will Haverly pitched 2/3 inning, allowing three earned runs on three hits, while
Jack McCabe provided two innings of relief, yielding three earned runs on five hits.
Nolan Readmond closed the game with two innings, allowing only one hit and no earned runs.
