MINNEAPOLIS – Augsburg University Athletics has announced a leadership change in its men's hockey program. Head Coach Garrett Hendrickson will be departing the university after three seasons in that role, with a 30-40-6 record in his tenure.

"This leadership decision follows a comprehensive evaluation of the program and is aligned with our commitment to provide a strong student-athlete experience and to position our teams for success," said Augsburg Athletic Director Amy Cooper. "We thank Garrett for his time and contributions to Augsburg Athletics and wish him the best moving forward."

Including two seasons as an assistant coach, Hendrickson was part of the Augsburg men's hockey staff for five years. He was part of the Auggies' Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title team in 2021-22 and the conference playoff champion squad in 2022-23, advancing to the NCAA Division III national playoffs each season. In his first year as head coach (2023-24), the Auggies won the MIAC regular-season title and reached the conference playoff semifinals.

A native of Virginia, Minn., Hendrickson was a three-time All-MIAC Honorable Mention forward at Concordia College-Moorhead, and served as a junior hockey assistant coach for three seasons before joining the Augsburg staff.

Augsburg Assistant Coach Tyler Veen will serve as interim coach, as a national search begins for the seventh head coach of Augsburg's men's hockey program since 1959.
