ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Augsburg University volleyball team faced two tough opponents during the Hamline/Macalester St. Paul Classic on Saturday, losing in five sets to Simpson College and in four sets to Central College.

SIMPSON RECAP
In the match against Simpson, tthe Auggies forced a fifth set with an impressive 8-0 run in the fourth but couldn't finish off the match in a 16-14 deciding set.
After the Storm scored the first point, the Auggies surged ahead 6-1, thanks to
Taliah Triggs serving five consecutive points and
Lilly Wynn contributing two kills. The Auggies maintained momentum, leading 23-14 before closing the first set 25-16 after a Storm attack error.
The second set saw the Auggies initially trading points before the Storm pulled ahead 15-12. Despite efforts from the Auggies, including kills from Mitchell and Triggs, the Storm closed the set 25-18.
In a rocky third set, the Auggies struggled, falling behind early and losing 25-11. However, in the fourth set, the Auggies rallied with a strong performance, highlighted by a service run from
Elise Uphoff, leading to a 25-17 set win.
The fifth set was tightly contested, tied at 5-5 before the Auggies took a brief lead at 10-7. However, the Storm came back to clinch the match with a final score of 16-14.

CENTRAL RECAP
In their second match against Central (IA), the Auggies lost 3-1, managing only a .144 hitting percentage, racking up 35 kills compared to Central's 55 kills and a .339 hitting percentage.
The Auggies started strong in the first set, with a kill from
Ameerah Rogers giving them a crucial lead at 27-25, despite a late push from Central. However, Central quickly regained control, taking the second set 25-18 and dominating the third set 25-18.
In the fourth set, the Auggies struggled significantly, falling behind early and ultimately losing 25-11 despite late kills from Wynn, King, and Ricke.

Jovial King claimed her sixth consecutive assist-dig double-double of the season and the 26th of her Auggie career, with 27 assists and 11 digs. She has recorded 27 or more set assists in 7 consecutive matches.
