MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg College's Adam Carl (SR, Eagan, Minn.), Chris DeVet (JR, Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and Chad Thompson (SR, Maple Grove, Minn.) were recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 football team for NCAA Division III, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A finance and accounting major with a 3.86 grade-point average, Thompson was an Academic All-District and Capital One Academic All-America first-team honoree in 2012. Carl and DeVet are being honored for the first time on the Academic All-District football squad. Carl is an accounting major with a 3.43 GPA, while DeVet is a chemistry major with a 3.75 GPA.

Chad Thompson
A three-year starter at center, Thompson earned All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference second-team honors in both 2012 and 2011, along with earning Academic All-MIAC honors in both seasons as well.

Thompson was the leader of an Auggie offensive line that helped the team produce 4,538 yards of total offense in 2013, a 453.8 yards per-game average that ranked second among MIAC teams in overall statistics and 28th among NCAA Division III teams nationally. Augsburg averaged 172.0 rushing yards and 281.8 passing yards per-game this season. Augsburg's offensive line also provided solid protection, allowing just eight quarterback sacks and 40 tackles for-loss this season. The Auggies' 0.80 sacks allowed per-game average is tied for 19th-fewest among Division III teams nationally, while the team's 4.00 tackles for-loss per-game average is tied for fifth-best nationally.

Over Thompson's three seasons as a starter, Augsburg averaged 427.6 yards of total offense per-game (12,828 yards in 30 games), while allowing just 106 tackles for loss and 28 sacks.

Adam Carl
Carl has earned a reputation as one of the top NCAA Division III tight ends in the nation during his career. A two-time D3football.com Preseason All-American, Carl earned D3football.com All-America first-team and Beyond Sports Network All-America honorable-mention recognition in 2012, while earning All-MIAC first-team honors in both 2012 and 2011. He was also named to the D3football.com All-West Region teams the past two seasons -- a first-team selection in 2012 and second-team selection in 2011.

This season, Carl finished with 52 receptions for 696 yards and four touchdowns. His 52 receptions were sixth-most among MIAC receivers in overall statistics, while his 69.6 receiving yards per-game average was eighth-most among MIAC receivers -- both totals tops among conference tight ends. His 13.4 yards per-reception average was 10th-best among MIAC receivers.

Carl finished his career with 164 catches for 1,953 yards and 18 receiving touchdowns, while also recording one rushing touchdown in his career. His 18 receiving touchdowns are sixth-most in a career in Augsburg history.

Chris Devet
A defensive lineman, DeVet was an All-MIAC second-team selection in 2012. This season, he finished third on the team in total tackles with 63 (28 solo), including team highs of 12.0 tackles for-loss and 5.0 sacks, to go along with three pass breakups, six quarterback hurries and a fumble recovery. His 63 tackles were tied for 15th among MIAC players in overall statistics, while his 12.0 tackles for-loss were third-most and 5.0 sacks were tied for fourth-most.

He had five or more tackles in eight games this season, including 10 tackles (two solo) in a 55-20 win over Hamline on Sept. 28 and 10 tackles (nine solo) in a 49-45 loss at Carleton on Nov. 16. He had two sacks in a 17-14 home loss to St. Thomas on Nov. 2.

In 20 career games, DeVet now has 115 career tackles (49 solo), including 20.5 tackles for-loss, 7.5 sacks, four pass breakups, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble.

Under ninth-season head coach Frank Haege, Augsburg finished 5-5 overall, 3-5 in MIAC play in 2013. Augsburg completed its third straight finish of .500 or above, marking the fifth time in the 81 seasons of Auggie football that the feat has been accomplished. Augsburg is 36-34 since the 2007 season.

The Capital One Academic All-District team is part of the Capital One Academic All-America program, as selected by CoSIDA. Top student-athletes from Division III programs in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan are eligible for inclusion on the District 6 team. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average above 3.30 (4.0 scale) and have outstanding athletic credentials. College sports information directors in the district vote for the teams.

This is the third year of the expanded Academic All-America program, as CoSIDA has moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I), doubling the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools. First-team Academic All-District members advance to the Academic All-America ballot, voted on by a committee of CoSIDA members.

Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA's Academic All-America programs since 2011. An NCAA Corporate Champion, Capital One began its affiliation with college sports with the sponsorship of the 2001 Capital One Florida Citrus Bowl (now the Capital One Bowl) and ESPN's Capital One Bowl Week. In addition, Capital One sponsors the ABC College Football Halftime Report, Capital One All-America Mascot team, Capital One Academic All Program, and supports all 89 NCAA Championships including the Division I Men's and Women's Basketball Championships, and numerous other collegiate athletics programs.
