Augsburg 13, Concordia Moorhead 10

MINNEAPOLIS -- Augsburg kicker Martin Hlinka nailed a 29-yard field goal with 17 seconds to play Saturday, sending the Auggies into sole possession of first place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 13-10 victory over Concordia-Moorhead at Anderson-Nelson Field. With the win, combined with Bethel's 33-27 win over St. Thomas on Saturday, Augsburg is in sole possession of first place in the league with a 7-1 overall record and 6-1 league mark. Concordia and St. Thomas are both 6-2 overall and 5-2 in the league. Augsburg is in pursuit of its first MIAC football championship since the 1928 season -- the only MIAC football title the Auggies have ever won.

Augsburg's seven wins in the season matches a school record for victories in a season, previously set in 1973, when the Auggies finished 7-2 overall. The Auggies have won six games in a row, matching the longest winning streak in school history.

Augsburg tied the game at 10-10 with 9:12 in the fourth quarter, when Hlinka hit a 30-yard field goal. Joe Stanton recovered a Cobbers fumble at the Concordia 43-yard line. Augsburg drove 32 yards in 13 plays to set up Hlinka's game-winning field goal.

Augsburg wide receiver Scott Hvistendahl broke the school's career record for pass receptions with a 12-catch, 113-yard performance, including a four-yard touchdown pass from Derrin Lamker early in the second quarter. Hvistendahl now has 157 receptions in his career, eclipsing the mark of 146 held by current assistant coach Drew Privette. Hvistendahl also had four rushes on end-arounds in the contest for a team-high 45 yards.

Lamker completed 30 passes in 49 attempts with two interceptions for 251 yards and one touchdown. Tight end Ted Schultz caught 10 passes for 72 yards. Jim Peterson had 11 rushes for 36 yards. Concordia scored on a 31-yard field goal by Clayton Horgen with 8:10 to play in the first quarter, then scored its lone touchdown on a one-yard run by Ethan Pole.

Augsburg's Jake Kern had two interceptions, while Andy Zigan and Jason Exley each had an interception. Bob Schultz led the team with nine tackles.
