College Wrestling -- Augsburg claims six championships at Minnesota-Morris Open
MORRIS, Minn. (12/4/99) -- Augsburg College claimed six individual championships to dominate action at the University of Minnesota-Morris Cougar Open on Saturday (12/4).
Three Auggies remained unbeaten on the season with individual weight-class titles.
Ben Bauer (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) improved to 9-0 by claiming the heavyweight championship;
Josh Cagle (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) improved to 8-0 with the title at 149 pounds, including a pin and technical fall.
Nick Slack (So., Belle Plaine, Minn.) picked up a pin, technical fall and major decision to improve to 5-0 on the season, winning the 174-pound title.
Brian Jones (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) swept through the 141-pound weight class to win the title, as did
Nik Lewandowski (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) at 184 and
Shane Wevley (Sr., Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central Area HS) at 197.
Justin Baker (Sr., Kerkhoven, Minn./Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunberg HS) placed second at 157 pounds.
Placing third for the Auggies were:
Josh Barlage (So., Farmington, Minn.) and
Brandon Eckert (Fr., Eden Prairie, Minn.) at 174; Drew Gau (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) and
Jeremy Jirele (So., Owatonna, Minn.) at 157 and
Joe Kunshier (Fr., Forest Lake, Minn.) at 165.
Matt Romsdahl (Sr., St. James, Minn., 165) and
Eric Roth (So., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS, 149) placed fourth for Augsburg.
