College Wrestling -- Augsburg 47, Southwest State 0

MINNEAPOLIS (12/7/99) -- Taking advantage of two forfeits, one fall, three technical falls and two major decisions, the Augsburg College wrestling team cruised to a 47-0 shutout victory over Southwest State University in a nonconference dual meet Tuesday night at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg, last year's national runner-up in NCAA Division III wrestling, improved to 1-1 in dual meets this season. Southwest State, a Division II school, drops to 1-5 in dual meets.

Ben Bauer (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) had the lone pin of the night for the Auggies, with a 4:21 decision over SSU's Mike Rosenau (Fr., Stewart, Minn.) at heavyweight. Bauer remained unbeaten with his 10th victory of the season.

Josh Cagle (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) picked up his ninth win without a loss this season, scoring a technical fall, 15-0 win over Steve Bristle (So., Maynard, Minn.) at 149 pounds to open the match. Nick Slack (So., Belle Plaine, Minn.) also remained unbeaten with a win on the mat, scoring a 10-2 major-decision win at 174 pounds to improve to 6-0 overall.

Nik Lewandowski (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) scored a technical fall win at 184 pounds, and Brian Jones (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) claimed a 3:57, 15-0 technical-fall win in the last match of the evening, at 141.

Augsburg and Southwest State both return to action on Saturday (12/11) at the St. Cloud State Invitational. Augsburg's White Team (JV) will compete at the Dick Walker (Wartburg) Invitational on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.
