Jeoffrey Reed (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./De La Salle HS) scored 13 of his game-high 21 points in the final eight minutes to lead Augsburg College (18-2 overall, 15-1 MIAC) to its 14th straight victory, 65-62 over Macalester in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Macalester Gymnasium.
Reed, who went 5-for-7 from three-point range, put the Auggies up 64-62 with a three-pointer with just 17 seconds to play. The Scots missed a three-poiner with five seconds left and Augsburg held on for the win.
Devean George (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret HS), the MIAC's leading scorer, was held to 11 points but grabbed 16 rebounds. George increases his career scoring total to 2,055, moving past Dan Anderson into the No. 2 spot on Augsburg's career scoring list. Anderson had 2,052 points from 1961 to 1965. Brian Ammann, currently the head coach of the Auggies, holds the school's career scoring record with 2,271 points from 1981-85.
Doug Hoffert (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) scored 20 points and Patrick Russell (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata HS) added 17 to pace Macalester (7-13 overall, 6-10 MIAC). Evan Bass (So., Chandler, Ariz.) dished out nine assists.
Augsburg hosts St. John's on Saturday, while Macalester hosts Gustavus. Both games are at 3 p.m.
