College Wrestling -- Augsburg 41, Augustana (S.D.) 3

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (1/7/00) -- Josh Clausen (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) and Ben Bauer (Jr., Faribault, Minn.) scored second-period falls for Augsburg College, leading the Auggies to a 41-3 dual-meet victory over Augustana (S.D.) College in a nonconference wrestling dual meet Friday night at Augustana's Elmen Center. The meet was part of Augustana's Viking Duals competition.

Augsburg, rated No. 1 in the nation in the latest NWCA Division III national poll, improved to 2-1 in dual meets this season with the victory. Augustana, which also scored dual meet wins over Northern State (S.D.) (44-10) and Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) (45-6), is now 3-2 in dual meets.

Clausen scored a 3:34 pin over Augustana's Ben McKenzie at 197 pounds, while Bauer claimed a 4:59 fall over James Garvey at heavyweight. The pin was Bauer's seventh of the season.

Remaining unbeaten with victories on Friday were Josh Cagle (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) and Nick Slack (So., Belle Plaine, Minn.). Cagle improved to 19-0 at 149 pounds with a 5:21 technical fall victory, his 11th of the year. Slack improved to 14-0 with his victory at 174.

Augustana's lone win came at 165, with a 7-2 victory for Todd Kirkpatrick over Augsburg's Tony Abbott.

Augsburg has its biggest dual meet of the season on Sunday (1/9) with a nonconference meet against Wartburg (Iowa) at 3 p.m. at Augsburg's Si Melby Hall. Wartburg, the defending Division III national champion, is rated No. 2 in the country behind Augsburg in the national poll.
