BISMARCK, N.D. (1/20/01) -- For the seventh straight year, Augsburg College claimed the team championship at the University of Mary Invitational on Saturday, winning four individual weight classes and topping second-place Mary by 8.5 points.

Augsburg won the title with 97.0 points, while Mary was second in the seven-team meet with 88.5 points. Dickinson State (N.D.) was third with 53, Augsburg's White Team was fourth in 26.5.

Winning individual titles for the Auggies were: Darin Bertram (Jr., Herman, Minn./Herman-Norcross HS) at 125, Brad Fisher (Jr., Austin, Minn.) at 141, Drew Gau (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS) at 157 and Ben Bauer (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) at heavyweight.

Bauer shared the tournament's Most Valuable Wrestler honors with Mary's Jeremy Englehardt, who topped Nik Lewandowski (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) in the 184-pound final match. Also placing second for the Auggies were Troy Peterson (Jr., Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) at 133 pounds, Mark Peterson (Sr., Eyota, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS) at 149, Tony Abbott (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy HS) at 165 and Josh Barlage (Jr., Farmington, Minn.) at 197.

John Schermerhorn (Fr., Rochert, Minn./Frazee HS, 125) and Ben Wilson (So., Le Sueur, Minn./Le Sueur-Henderson HS, 184) placed third, while Vince DePatto (Fr., Big Lake, Minn./Monticello HS) and Eric Roth (Jr., BLoomington, Minn./Kennedy HS) shared third at 149 and Mark Anderson (Sr., Corcoran, Minn./Rockford HS) and Scot Revier (Fr., Olivia, Minn./BOLD HS) shared third at heavyweight. Larry Lyden (Jr., New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) placed fourth at 174.

Augsburg hosts the 11th annual Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Team Duals on Friday and Saturday (1/26-27) at Si Melby Hall. Augsburg has won every match of its 53 in MIAC Team Duals competition over the past decade, en route to all 10 championships.
