DECORAH, Iowa (2/3/01) -- Augsburg College split its wrestling squad in competitions on Saturday, coming away with a championship at the All-Lutheran Classic at Luther College and a second-place finish at the Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational.

Augsburg, the defending NCAA Division III national champions and current top-ranked team in the national polls, had four titlists and scored 157.5 points to earn team title honors at the six-team All-Lutheran Classic. Wartburg (Iowa), currently ranked fourth in the Division III national rankings and last year's national runner-up, was second with 147.5. Augsburg had one titlist at the UW-Eau Claire meet to place second with 84.5 points. Wisconsin-La Crosse, ranked second in the Division III national rankings, won the eight-school, 14-team meet with 90 points.

Nick Slack (Jr., Belle Plaine, Minn.) extended his consecutive match winning streak to 55 straight matches, winning both his matches to take the title at 174 pounds at the All-Lutheran meet. Slack, the defending NCAA Division III national champion and current top-ranked wrestler in Division III at 174 pounds, scored a pin and major decision to move to 24-0 on the season.

Darin Bertram (Jr., Herman, Minn./Herman-Norcross HS), the top-ranked wrestler in the nation at 125 pounds, improved to 32-2 on the season with two victories to earn title honors at the All-Lutheran meet. Nik Lewandowski (Sr., Hastings, Minn.), top-ranked at 184 pounds, moved to 24-5 on the year with two wins and his weight-class title. Bryan Miller (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) scored three wins, two by major decision, to earn title honors at 133 pounds and move to 21-6.

Placing second at the All-Lutheran meet were Blaine Kuhlman (Fr., Medford, Minn.) at 141 pounds and Tony Quance (Jr., Stillwater, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) at 149. Drew Gau (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS, 157 pounds), Tony Abbott (Jr., Inver Grove Heights, Minn./St. Thomas Academy HS, 165), Kevin Rasmussen (Jr., Owatonna, Minn., 197) and Mark Anderson (Sr., Corcoran, Minn./Rockford HS, HWT) placed third, and Billy Morgan (Fr., Tintah, Minn./West Central Area HS, 157) placed fourth. Abbott went 3-1 on the day, with all three wins coming by fall in 6:52 to earn the tournament honors for most pins in the least amount of time.

Joe Moon (Fr., Ellendale, Minn./New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva HS) was Augsburg's lone titlist at the UW-Eau Claire meet, scoring three wins -- two by major decision -- to take top honors at 174.

Brad Fisher (Jr., Austin, Minn.) finished second at 141 pounds, entering the meet ranked second in the country. Also placing second at UW-Eau Claire were Troy Peterson (Jr., Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer HS) at 133 and Tony Davis (So., Elk River, Minn.) at 165.

Mark Peterson (Sr., Eyota, Minn./Dover-Eyota HS, 149), Vince DePatto (Fr., Big Lake, Minn./Monticello HS, 157) and Jeremiah Knabe (Fr., Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central HS, 197) placed third in the meet, with Eric Roth (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Kennedy HS, 149) and Adam Diesterhaft (So., Cumberland, Wis., 165) placing fourth.

Augsburg returns to varsity action on Friday (2/9), with a 7 p.m. dual meet at Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Augsburg is currently 14-1 on the season in dual meets. The Auggie White Team competes at the Carleton Invitational on Saturday (2/10) at 9 a.m., and the Auggies' last home dual meet of the season is on Sunday (2/11), hosting South Dakota State University at 2 p.m. at Si Melby Hall. SDSU is ranked fourth in the nation in the latest NCAA Division II national poll.
