FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/20/01) --
Ryan Krautkremer (Jr., Waseca, Minn.) notched his second two-homer game in the past two days to lift Augsburg to one victory in two games at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Tuesday afternoon at the Lee County Sports Complex's Pelican Field.
Krautkremer's two home runs enabled Augsburg to claim a 6-4 win over Mid-American Nazarene University of Kansas in the second game of the afternoon for the Auggies. In the first game, three runs in the fifth inning gave Franklin Pierce College of New Hampshire a 3-0 win over the Auggies. Augsburg is now 9-5 on the season.
Krautkremer had a two-run home run and solo shot to account for three RBI and a 3-for-4 performance at the plate against Mid-American Nazarene.
Pat Marsh (Jr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) added a double fo the Auggies in the victory, and
Adam Dittrich (Sr., New Ulm, Minn./Minnesota Valley Lutheran HS),
Mike Schwalen (Sr.., Minneapolis, Minn./Richfield HS) and
Rich Storholm (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park HS) all drove in runs for the Auggies.
Nic Shelby (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels HS), coming off a pitching win in relief for the Auggies on Sunday against U-Mass-Boston, claimed his second win and improved to 4-1 on the season for the Auggies, striking out seven while walking two and allowing seven MNU hits.
Augsburg was limited to just two hits in the first game of the day, the team's lowest hitting output of the season so far. Franklin Pierce pitcher John Learson (Sr., Chelmsford, Mass) struck out seven Auggies while walking two in the complete-game performance.
Storholm had a second-inning double and
Frank Huebner (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) had a sixth-inning single to account for Augsburg's hits against Franklin Pierce, an NCAA Division II school.
Krautkremer pitched a complete-game effort in the first game, but the hard-luck pitcher fell to 0-3 on the season with the loss. He struck out seven and allowed five walks and only four hits. Franklin Pierce scored on an error and a two-run single by Mal Higgins (Sr., Qunicy, Mass./North Quincy HS) in the fifth.
Augsburg returns to Gene Cusic Classic action on Wednesday (3/21) in Fort Myers with a doubleheader against Coe College (Iowa).
