FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/23/01) -- Dave Sherry (Jr., Hastings, Minn.) went 4-for-6 at the plate with a double and two runs scored in the doubleheader, as Augsburg College finished its spring break trip to Florida with a split with Calvin College (Mich.) at the Gene Cusic Classic at Terry Park.

Calvin won the first game 4-1, but Augsburg came back to claim a 12-0 win in the second contest to improve to 12-8 on the season. Augsburg went 6-4 in its 10 games in the Gene Cusic Classic.

Augsburg pounded out 17 hits -- 14 singles and three doubles -- in the second game, with every batter in the lineup collecting at least one hit. Mike Schwalen (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Richfield HS) and Sammy Gross (So., Springfield, Minn.) each went 3-for-4 at the plate in the second contest. Sherry went 2-for-3 with a run-scoring double and two runs scored.

Augsburg scored eight runs in the first four innings, then capped the performance with a four-run seventh frame, keyed by a three-run double by Rich Storholm (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./St. Louis Park HS). Storholm had four RBI in the game. Joe Holman (So., Springfield, Minn.) also had a run-scoring double for the Auggies.

Matt Topp (Jr., South St. Paul, Minn.) pitched a complete-game victory for the Auggies, striking out three and allowing just four hits.
Zac Jackson had two hits for Calvin. Seth McLaughlin and Brent Wheat combined for the pitching performance for Calvin in the second contest.

A three-run third inning, all coming on a three-run home run by Aaron Wiers, spelled doom for the Auggies in the first contest.
Augsburg could muster only a single run in the seventh, when Pat Marsh (Jr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) drove in Storholm, who opened up the inning with a double.

Nick Rathmann (So., Waseca, Minn.) pitched well in a losing effort for the Auggies, striking out six while walking four. He allowed eight hits. Ryan Wolthuis scored the win for Calvin, striking out three while allowing five hits.
