BOXSCORE

MINNEAPOLIS (11/8/02) -- Jaro Cesky (Sr., Prague, Czech Republic) had three assists, and Patrick Hook (Jr., Monticello, Minn.) scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period, as Augsburg College claimed a 4-3, come-from-behind win over Marian College (Wis.) in a nonconference men's hockey game Friday night at the Augsburg Ice Arena.

Hook's goal, a rebound off assists from Cesky and Chris Lorenz (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn./Mahtomedi HS), pushed the Auggies to their third win in a row in improving to 3-2 on the season.

Marian dropped to 3-4-0 overall, breaking a two-game winning streak over nationally-ranked opponents. The teams conclude their series on Saturday (11/16) at 7 p.m. at Augsburg.

Andy Allen (So., Virginia, Minn.) scored two goals for the Sabres. He scored the game's first goal, a power-play tally late in the first period on assists from Brad Hawkins (Jr., Nepean, Ontario) and Pat McKay (So., St. Clair Shores, Mich.).

But Augsburg gained the advantage with two goals in a 1:18 span early in the second frame. With a 4-on-3 power play, Brad Holzinger (Sr., North Oaks, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) lit the lamp, on assists from David May (So., Burnsville, Minn.) and Cesky. Back at 5-on-5, Matt Parnell (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored his first collegiate goal, scoring on a feed from Tarik Yumusaklar (Fr., Lakeville, Minn.).

Marian tied the game with Allen's second goal of the game at the 6:56 mark, on feeds from Jon Daigle (So., Richmond, British Columbia) and Jamie Davidson (Sr., Montreal, Quebec).

Augsburg regained the lead with another power-play goal, from Dave Nelson (Fr., Woodbury, Minn./South St. Paul HS) on a Cesky assist, halfway through the period, but the Sabres tied the game again, on Nate Erick's (Fr., Olds, Alberta) power-play goal from Dan Odegard (Sr., Oakdale, Minn.) and Ken McKay (So., St. Clair Shores, Minn.) at the 15:44 mark. A tight third period set the stage for the Auggies' game-winning goal.

For the fifth time this season, Augsburg was outshot, as Marian claimed a 38-24 shots-on-goal edge. But goalie Erik Young (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.), a transfer from the University of Minnesota in his first Auggie start, stopped 35 shots to score his first win of the year. Terry Dunbar (Jr., Duluth, Minn.) made 20 saves in a losing effort.
