MINNEAPOLIS (2/13/02) -- Andy Gilbert (Jr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) scored 14 points, pulled down six rebounds and contributed three assists, leading a dominating Bethel College performance Wednesday night, with an 81-54 rout of host Augsburg College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Si Melby Hall.
Eleven different Royals scored as the visitors led from start to finish in improving to 18-5 overall and 13-5 in MIAC play. Augsburg, in its final home game of the season, dropped to 10-14 overall and 6-13 in MIAC play. Augsburg has lost four straight games and five of its last six.
Hitting three-pointers on their first three possessions, Bethel jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the first 2:32 of the game, eventually stretching the lead to 23 points, 48-25, at halftime. After the 13-1 lead, Augsburg cut the margin below 10 points just twice in the first half. Bethel's lead was built to as many as 36 points in the second half.
The Royals hit 12 3-pointers in the game, while Augsburg had a cold shooting night -- 18-of-68 from the field (26.5 percent) and 8-of-31 from 3-point range (25.8 percent).
All 15 Royals saw game action, and 11 different Royals scored. Drew Brodin (Jr., Vadnais Heights, Minn./Mounds View HS) had 13 points, Brett Repasky (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) had 10 points, while Eric Robertson (Sr., Andover, Minn./Anoka HS) and John Jacobs (So., Wells, Minn./United South Central HS) had eight points and seven rebounds each.
Josh Moberg (So., Maple Grove, Minn.), who played last season and the first half of this season at Augsburg before transferring to Bethel at the semester break, scored six points and led all players with nine rebounds in his first game at Si Melby Hall after transferring to Bethel.
Augsburg was paced by
Trevor Overskei (Jr., Roseville, Minn.), who hit three 3-pointers and had 13 points.
Josh Natzel (Sr., St. Louis Park, Minn.), Augsburg's lone senior making his final career appearance at Si Melby Hall, scored nine points and had three steals.
Nick Peters (Jr., St. Peter, Minn./Nicollet HS) and
Zac Rosen (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./West Lutheran HS) had seven points each.
Both teams complete the regular season on Saturday (2/16) at 3 p.m., with Augsburg playing at Gustavus and Bethel hosting Concordia-Moorhead.
