EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (2/1/03) -- Augsburg College wrestlers recorded three second-place finishes en route to a fourth-place team finish at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Invitational on Saturday at the McPhee Phy Ed Center.

Several of Augsburg's top wrestlers did not compete on Saturday, taking the weekend off to leave the wrestling to younger competitiors. Wisconsin-Stevens Point won the eight-school, 21-team meet with 74 points, while Wisconsin-Parkside was second with 70.5, Wisconsin-Eau Claire A was third with 66.5 and Augsburg A was fourth with 53.5.

At 125 pounds, Greg Brendemuehl (Fr., Medford, Minn.) won two matches before falling 7-4 to Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Davey Starks, the second-ranked wrestler in the most recent national polls.

At 133, Jared Evans (Fr., Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS) finshed second, going 2-1 on the day. Rob Doliber (So., Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS) scored three wins, including a pin and technical fall, at 165 pounds before losing in the finals to St. Olaf's Jason Moore.

Placing third for Augsburg was Ryan Valek (Fr., Belle Plaine, Minn.) at 165, Clint Hodgdon (So., Ostrander, Minn./LeRoy-Ostrander HS) at 184 and Joe Cullen (So., Coon Rapids, Minn.) at 197.

Placing fourth for Augsburg was Jeremy Sogge (Fr., Paynesville, Minn.) at 133, Josh Erlandson (So., Ellsworth, Wis.) at 149 and Jeremiah Knabe (So., Jackson, Minn./Jackson County Central HS) at heavyweight.

Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (2/4), with its last home event of the season, a double-dual against South Dakota State and St. Cloud State (Minn.) at Si Melby Hall. The South Dakota State dual begins at 6 p.m., with the St. Cloud State dual following at 8 p.m.
