FORT MYERS, Fla. (3/18/03) -- Joe Haehn (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) hit his third home run in two days, a grand-slam homer in the first game, part of a seven-RBI doubleheader performance as Augsburg College swept Calvin College (Mich.) in a Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic baseball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Terry Park.

Augsburg won the first game 9-7, then won the second game 6-4 to improve to 3-7-1 overall, extending its winning streak to three straight games.

With his home run and a run-scoring single in the fourth inning, Haehn had five RBI and scored twice in the first game. He had a two-run double in the third inning of the second game. Haehn hit a three-run homer and two-run homer in Monday's win over Worcester State (Mass.).

In the first game, Augsburg rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game on Haehn's grand slam in the third inning. After Calvin scored twice in the top of the fourth, Augsburg scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good. Augsburg claimed five straight hits after two outs, with consecutive singles from M.J. Iverson (Sr., New Germany, Minn./Norwood-Young America Central HS), Pat Marsh (Sr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS), Andy Nelson (Fr., Waseca, Minn.) and Haehn, with Collin Nash (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) capping the stretch with a two-run double.

Nash went 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, while Nelson and Haehn went 2-for-4 each with two runs scored.

Kurt Dybdahl (So., Minneapolis, Minn./Edison HS), pitching in relief of starter Ben Winchell (Fr., Cannon Falls, Minn.), scored the win on the mound, with Tyler Suter (Fr., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) pitching the last three innings to score the save.

In the second game, Augsburg took an early 3-0 lead, but Calvin eventually tied the game at 4-4 going into the seventh inning. Augsburg scored the win with a two-run inning in the top of the seventh. Nick Rathmann (Sr., Waseca, Minn.) led off the inning with a double, and was sacrificed to second on a bunt by Jon Kozitza (Jr., North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS). After an intentional walk and strikeout, Iverson hit a single to drive in Rathmann, and Marsh drove in the insurance run with another single.

Kozitza then took the mound for a 1-2-3 inning to score the save for the Auggies. Isaac Schmidt (So., Luverne, Minn.) started the game and pitched four and one-third innings, with Russ Bauer (Sr., Faribault, Minn.) pitching an inning and two-thirds of relief to score the win.

Iverson reached base all four times he was at the plate, with a single, a walk and reaching on two errors. He scored twice and had an RBI. Marsh went 2-for-4 at the plate, reaching base three times.

Augsburg returns to Gene Cusic Classic action on Wednesday (3/19) with a 12 noon game against Clarkson College (N.Y.) at Cape Coral Field. This is a change of opponents and game times from previous schedules.
