ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/10/03) -- The University of St. Thomas baseball team ran its winning streak to 11 with Wednesday's 10-1 and 6-3 victories over visiting Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on the Tommies' diamond.
Ninth-year head coach Dennis Denning surpassed 300 career victories with the sweep. Denning is now 301-86 at St. Thomas after compiling a 378-76 record previously in 17 seasons at Cretin-Derham Hall High School.
Freshman Ryan Ashner (4-0) allowed one run and four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in six innings of game one to lead the Tommies (15-5-1 overall, 6-0 MIAC). Luke Sather had a home run, triple and double with two RBI, and the Tommies also got home runs from Jordan Roering and Eric Maursetter in a 14-hit attack.
In game two, Mike Ramthun allowed three runs and six hits with six strikeouts and no walks in six innings for the win. Matt Buzzell's two-run single keyed a four-run second inning.
Pat Marsh (Sr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) hit an inside-the-park homer in game one and
Collin Nash (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) Nash had two RBI doubles in game two for the Auggies (7-12-2 overall, 2-4 MIAC).
St. Thomas has a bye Saturday (4/12) and hosts St. Olaf next Wednesday (2:30 p.m. twinbill). The Auggies host Bethel on Saturday (1 p.m.) at Parade Stadium in Minneapolis.
