Wisconsin-Stevens Point rallies in third period, overtakes Augsburg 4-2.

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (11/20/04) -- Mike Brolsma scored two goals, while Adam Kostichka added a goal and assist, as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point rallied from a second-period deficit to claim a 4-2 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's hockey game Saturday night at Willett Arena.

Trailing 2-1 after two periods, the Pointers scored three goals in the first 13:39 of the third period to forge ahead, with Brolsma notching two shorthanded goals in the third-period flourish.

The Pointers improve to 1-4-1 on the season, while the Auggies suffered their second straight loss on the weekend to fall to 1-4-1.

Augsburg jumped on the board first, as Danny Carlson (Fr., Roseville, Minn.) scored his third goal of the season from Joe Haehn (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn./Washburn HS) at the 15:35 mark of the first period. But the Pointers tied the game 65 seconds later, as Brent Halverson scored from Chris Gehrke and Kostichka.

Augsburg took the lead back early in the second period, with Critter Nagurski (So., International Falls, Minn.) scoring from Greg May (So., Burnsville, Minn.) and Ben Sandvik (Jr., Rochester, Minn./Century HS).

Brolsma scored his first shorthanded goal of the night, on an assist from Gehrke, at the 3:19 mark of the third period to tie the game. Kostichka scored the eventual game-winning goal, from Tom Vernelli and Nick Zebro, at the 8:04 mark, and Brolsma capped the win with an unassisted shorthanded goal at the 13:39 mark.

The Pointers outshot the Auggies by a 37-23 margin in the game. Jim Redpath scored 21 saves for the Pointers, while Augsburg's Tony Ciro (Jr., Spring Lake Park, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) made 33 saves.

Augsburg returns to action with a nonconference series at Minnesota-Crookston next weekend. Saturday's (11/27) game is at 7 p.m., with Sunday's (11/28) game at 2 p.m.
