Seven-game losing streak is snapped, Augsburg claims 66-59 win at Hamline!

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/7/04) -- Augsburg College went on a 14-4 run midway through the second half to erase a two-point Hamline University lead and give the Auggies a 66-59 win over the Pipers in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena, snapping a seven-game Augsburg losing streak.

The Pipers (6-15, 3-13 in the MIAC) led 42-40 on an Andy Grossback basket with 11:05 left in the game, but Augsburg (7-15 overall, 4-13 MIAC) scored the next seven points to regain the lead. Senior Casey Zilka scored five points during the span, including a three-pointer to give the Auggies a 43-42 lead.

The lead ballooned to as many as 10 points before Hamline cut the lead to 62-57 on a Brandon Aukes three-pointer with 1:26 left in the game. The Pipers forced a turnover on the next possession, but were unable to get any closer.

Lucas Olson-Patterson led all scorers with 15 points. Marcus Gholson added 12 points, and Joshua Klem tallied 11 points for the Auggies.

Hamline was paced by Travis Jacobs' 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting from the field. Aukes scored 12 points, and Josh Hanson chipped in 10 points. Junior center Paul Muenchow grabbed nine rebounds for the Pipers.

Hamline shot 37 percent for the game (22-60). Augsburg was 42 percent shooting for the game (25-59) and was 13 of 26 in the second half.

Hamline will next play host Carleton on Wednesday (2/11) at 7:30 p.m., while Augsburg hosts St. Mary's in its final home game of the season at Si Melby Hall on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
