ST. PAUL, Minn. (4/13/04) -- Hamline University scored four runs in the sixth inning to erase a 3-2 deficit and defeat Augsburg 6-3 in the second game of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Midway Stadium. Augsburg won the first game 12-4 for the Auggies' ninth doubleheader split in its 11 twinbills this year

After the Auggies (12-13 overall, 4-4 in the MIAC) scored a run in their half of the sixth to take a 3-2 lead, the Pipers (7-14 overall, 4-4 MIAC) stormed back. Right fielder Brian Kingery singled and pinch hitter Bao Nguyen reached on an error to put runners of the corner. Shortstop Isaac Tyroler then tied the game with a double down the left-field line.

After a sacrifice fly to take the lead, Jason Juntunen singled home a run. Four batters later, first baseman Andy Gagnon walked in a run for the game's final tally.

Sophomore Chris Parent (1-0) earned his first win of the season, giving up just four hits over six innings of work.. He struck out five and walked two. Freshman Kyle Foster picked up the save by working a scoreless seventh.

Adam Johnson got the loss after giving up four runs over one-and-a-third innings of work. The Auggies gave up six hits in the contest to six different Piper batters.

In game one, the Auggies jumped on the Pipers for four runs in the first inning off Piper starter Matt Mahmoodi (1-5).

Hamline cut the lead to 4-2 and 6-4, but the Auggies responded with two runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Second baseman Andy Nelson was a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate with three RBI. Troy Deden, Taylor Pagel, and Jon Kozitza each added two RBI for Augsburg. Hamline's Aaron Thompson had a double and triple to account for two of the Pipers' four base hits.

Auggie Eric Weber pitched four-and-two-thirds innings in relief to pick up the win. He gave up just one hit while walking one and fanning three.

The Pipers will next play at Northwestern-Roseville on Wednesday (4/14) at 3 p.m. Augsburg returns to action with MIAC doubleheaders at Parade Stadium against Gustavus on Saturday (4/17) and Concordia-Moorhead on Sunday (4/18). Both doubleheaders start at 1 p.m.
