MINNEAPOLIS (4/18/04) -- Brian Schumacher (Fr., Brainerd, Minn.) went 5-for-7 at the plate, scoring four runs and driving in five, and Ryan Hebrink (Sr., Sacred Heart, Minn./Renville County West HS) hit a home run in the first game and pitched two innings of shutout baseball to pick up the win in the second game, as Concordia College-Moorhead claimed a doubleheader sweep of host Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball action Sunday afternoon at Parade Stadium.

Concordia rallied to win both games, scoring 11 runs in the final four innings to overcome Augsburg 13-6 in the first game. The Cobbers then rallied from a 14-3, second-inning deficit to score 20 runs in the final five innings and pull off a 23-16 victory in the second game. The second game was called after six innings due to imminent severe weather in the area.

Concordia scored six runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth inning of the first game, pounding out 17 hits against four Augsburg pitchers. Luther Kangas (Sr., Vadnais Heights, Minn.) went 3-for-4, scoring once and driving in four runs, hitting a two-run homer in the third inning and also adding a triple. Hebrink hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Chad Worthington (Sr., Bozeman, Mont.) went 4-for-4 with a double, scoring three runs. Schumacher went 2-for-4, as did Chris Klabo (Fr., Brainerd, Minn.), scoring three runs.

In the second game, Augsburg used an 11-run, seven-hit, 15-batter second inning to take a 14-3 lead, keyed by a three-run homer by Pat Knafla (Sr., Rice, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS). But Concordia rallied again, scoring four runs in the third inning, two in the fourth, four in the fifth and 10 runs in the sixth inning, sending 13 batters to the plate and taking advantage of four Augsburg errors.

Schumacher went 3-for-4 in the second game with a double and a triple, scoring four runs and driving in four. Jim Johnson (Sr., Anoka, Minn.) came off the bench to go 3-for-4, driving in six runs on two doubles and scoring three times. Klabo and Jack Dwyer (Sr., Bismarck, N.D.) also had two hits apiece.

Augsburg was paced by Darren Ginther (So., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS), who went 2-for-4 in the first game and 4-for-4 in the second game, scoring three runs and driving in four. He had a home run in the first game. Andy Nelson (So., Waseca, Minn.) went 2-for-4 in the first game and 3-for-4 in the second game, driving in three runs and scoring twice.

Augsburg returns to action on Tuesday (4/20) at 3 p.m. with a nonconference single game at Viterbo (Wis.), while Concordia returns to action on Wednesday (4/21) with an MIAC doubleheader at Carleton at 1 p.m.
