MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/3/05) -- Augsburg College wrestlers earned five individual championships in competition on Saturday at the Minnesota State University Moorhead Dragon Open at Alex Nemzek Hall. No team results were kept at the open meet, which attracted more than 200 wrestlers from 14 colleges. Augsburg had 13 of its 30 competing wrestlers place among the top five at the meet.

At 149 pounds, Jared Evans (Jr., Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS), ranked No. 4 nationally, shared the title with teammate Jacob Roberts (Fr., Jordan, Minn./Scott West). Evans is now 7-1 on the season.

At 157, Jeremy Anderson (So., Thief River Falls, Minn.), a transfer from Division I Minnesota, improved to 10-0 on the season with five victories to claim his weight-class title. He had a major decision in his opening match and a second-period pin in the championship match.

Robbie Gotreau (So., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) also stayed unbeaten on the season, moving down to 174 pounds and scoring the title at the weight class with five victories. He is now 10-0 on the season.

Heavyweight Andrew Neumann (Jr., Somerset, Wis.) improved to 8-0 with four victories to claim the title in his weight class, including a 1-0 win over MSU Moorhead's Chris Tuchscherer, the No. 3-ranked heavyweight in Division II, in the championship match.

Ryan Valek * (Sr., Belle Plaine, Minn./Scott West), the top-ranked wrestler in Division III at 165 pounds, won his first three matches before falling 7-1 to MSU Moorhead's Nate Baker, the No. 5-ranked wrestler in Division II. Baker, who earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors, avenged an 8-2 loss to Valek suffered in the teams' dual meet on Nov. 23. Valek is now 7-2 overall, with his two losses coming to ranked wrestlers in upper divisions.

Josh Hansen (Jr., Albert Lea, Minn.) placed second for Augsburg at 141 pounds, suffering his first loss of the season to fall to 7-1. Wally O'Connor (So., Oshkosh, Wis./Oshkosh West HS) also suffered his first loss of the season to fall to 7-1, finishing second at 197 pounds.

Zach Hansen (Fr., Albert Lea, Minn.) placed third for the Auggies at 133 pounds, as did Tim Matzek (So., Ellsworth, Wis.) at 157. Placing fourth was Ben Moss (Jr., Council Bluffs, Iowa/Lewis Central HS) at 141. Placing fifth for Augsburg was Seth Flodeen (Fr., Cannon Falls, Minn.) at 125 and Jake Grygelko (Fr., Loretto, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) at 165.

Augsburg has a dual meet on Tuesday (12/6) at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn., then returns to action with two meets on Saturday (12/10). The varsity will compete at the St. Cloud State Invitational, considered one of the top small-college meets in the Midwest, while the White Team (JV) will compete at the Dick Walker Invitational at Wartburg (Iowa).
