ROSEVILLE, Minn. (12/30/05) -- Joseph Sir (Sr., Cresco, Iowa) hit three 3-pointers and scored 16 points, while teammate Mike Anderstrom (So., Mendota Heights, Minn.) had 16 points and eight rebounds, leading Northwestern College-Roseville to a 60-47 victory over visiting Augsburg College in a nonconference men's basketball game Friday night at the Ericksen Center.

Daniel Hanson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) hit three 3-pointers in the first half and scored 11 points with six rebounds for the Eagles, now 9-2 overall.

Charlie Scott (Jr., Ely, Minn.) scored 15 points, hitting three 3-pointers, to lead Augsburg, now 2-7 overall. Augsburg has lost its last three straight games.

Northwestern held Augsburg scoreless over the final 5:27 of the first half, taking a 28-20 advantage at the break, then used a 10-3 run over a five-minute span midway through the second half to take an 11-point lead, 44-33, with 6:17 left. The run was capped by consecutive three-pointers by Sir.

Augsburg trimmed the lead back to five points with 3:46 remaining on an 11-5 run, keyed by seven points by Scott. But the Eagles took command again and outscored Augsburg 11-3 in the final 3:07 of play.

Dan Graf (Jr., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) fell one rebound short of a double-double, with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists for the Auggies before fouling out with with 1:07 left. Matthew Huttner (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn./ Rosemount HS) had eight points, and Tait Thomsen (Jr., Prior Lake, Minn.) had seven points and five rebounds before he fouled out with 1:32 remaining.

Shooting proved to be a big difference in the game. Northwestern hit 48.9 percent (23-of-47) from the field, including 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range. Meanwhile, Augsburg hit just 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the field, including just 16.7 percent (3-of-18) from beyond the three-point arc. Northwestern outrebounded Augsburg by a 28-27 margin.

Anderstrom hit 7-of-10 from the field in the game for his 16 points for the Eagles, also adding two blocked shots. Josh Strelecki (So., Crystal Falls, Mich.) had eight points, four assists and three steals, and Caleb Baker (Jr., Princeton, Ill.) had six points.

Augsburg returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Monday, Jan. 2 as part of a doubleheader at St. Thomas. The women's game is at 5:45 p.m., with the men's game to follow at 8 p.m. Northwestern opens Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play on Friday, Jan. 6 with a 7:30 p.m. game at Martin Luther.
