NORTHFIELD, Minn. (5/13/05) -- Andrew Werner's (Fr., Vermillion, Minn./Hastings HS) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning drove in Troy Deden (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) with the game-winning run to give Augsburg College (23-17) a 2-1 win over St. Olaf College (23-17) in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball playoff elimination game at Sechler Park on Friday night.

Deden reached base on a fielding error, was moved to second on a single by Taylor Pagel (Sr., Cannon Falls, Minn.), and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ricky Schreier (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) setting the stage for Werneråâs game-winning sacrifice fly. Deden scored both runs for the Auggies in the game.

Darren Ginther (Jr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) pitched a career-long nine-inning three-hitter for Augsburg, striking out eight while walking only one. St. Olaf's Eric Tobias also pitched a complete game, striking out three.

Augsburg scored its first run in the second inning, when Deden singled, moved to third on a double by Pagel, and came across on a single by Mike Zaun (Fr., Mendota Heights, Minn./Henry Sibley HS). Pagel went 3-for-4 to lead the Auggies.

St. Olaf tied the game in the sixth, when Josh Maus hit a leadoff triple and scored on a double-play grounder. St. Olaf stranded four runners on base, while Augsburg stranded six.

Augsburg will play Concordia (18-20) in an elimination game on Saturday )5/14) at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park in Dundas, Minn. Concordia lost 3-2 to St. Thomas (29-10) in the second game on Friday in Dundas.
