MINNEAPOLIS (9/13/05) -- Augsburg College football quarterback
Marcus LeVesseur (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) was named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Player of the Week on offense, it was announced on Monday.
In Saturday's season-opening 29-26 loss at Wartburg (Iowa), LeVesseur accounted for 378 of Augsburg's 404 yards of total offense. He moved from his starting wide receiver spot to quarterback after the first series and completed 24-of-35 passes for 242 yards, a touchdown and interception, while rushing for 136 yards on 22 carries with two touchdowns.
An All-MIAC selection in his first season of collegiate football in 2004, LeVesseur broke Augsburg's single-season rushing records for yardage (1,024), carries (256) and rushing touchdowns (10). He became just the second Auggie ever to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season and just the third Auggie to accumulate more than 200 carries in a season. Overall, LeVesseur led the MIAC in total offense in both conference (267.4 yards per game) and overall (233.0 ypg) play in 2004.
He now has 1,160 career rushing yards in his 11 games at Augsburg; the school's career rushing yardage record is 2,226 yards, set by Marty Alger from 1991-95.
As a wrestler, LeVesseur has won three straight NCAA Division III wrestling national titles at 157 pounds while compiling a 124-0 collegiate record. LeVesseur, who has yet to lose a collegiate wrestling match, has the second-longest career unbeaten streak in college wrestling history, behind the 159-0 record of Iowa State's Cael Sanderson (1998-2002).
