MINNEAPOLIS (9/11/05) --
Emily Anderson * (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) scored both Augsburg College goals in the second half, leading Augsburg to a 2-0 win over St. Olaf College in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer game Wednesday night at Augsburg's Edor Nelson Field.
Freshman goalkeeper
Maggie DeGroot (Fr., Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West HS) made six saves in goal to pick up her fourth shutout of the season in just her sixth collegiate game for the Auggies.
Augsburg is now 4-0-2 on the season, 1-0-0 in MIAC play, marking the best unbeaten streak (six games) to start a season in the history of Augsburg women's soccer. The previous best unbeaten start to a season was five games (4-0-1) in the 1997 season.
St. Olaf drops to 1-3-1 overall, 0-1-0 in MIAC play.
Anderson scored her first goal of the game in the 59th minute, taking a forward pass from
Millie Suk * (Sr., Rochester, Minn./Mayo HS) and depositing a one-timer from the top of the penalty box.
Her second goal of the game came in the 81st minute, off a corner kick from
Nora Austin * (Sr., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) and touch by
Katie Medd (Fr., Mankato, Minn./East HS). Anderson took a long shot from the top right corner of the penalty box, which passed the St. Olaf goalkeeper and deflected off the far post into the net.
Anderson, who leads the team in total scoring (three goals, six assists, 12 points), had 10 of Augsburg's 20 shots in the game.
St. Olaf had 13 shots, including four by Katie Bierlein (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) and three from Jenny Kallas (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn./South HS). Emily Rolfsmeyer (Jr., Sioux Falls, S.D./Roosevelt HS) made 10 saves in goal for the Oles.
Augsburg returns to MIAC play with a game at Hamline on Saturday (9/17) at 1 p.m. St. Olaf has a nonconference game at Wartburg (Iowa) on Sunday (9/18) at 3 p.m.
Augsburg opens Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday (9/14) at 7:30 p.m., hosting St. Olaf at Edor Nelson Field.
