MINNEAPOLIS (11/23/06) -- The No. 7-ranked University of Wisconsin-Superior used a three-goal outburst in the opening four minutes of the second period to claim the championship at the Augsburg College Thanksgiving Tournament, beating the host Auggies 3-2 on Thursday evening at the Augsburg Ice Arena.
Wisconsin-Superior (7-1-0 overall) scored three goals in a 1:52 span in the opening minutes of the second period and held off Augsburg (2-5-1 overall) to claim the victory.
In the third-place game, Bethel University (2-4-0) scored four goals in the third period to pull away from Finlandia University (Mich., 3-3-0) to claim a 7-2 victory on Thursday afternoon.

Chris Berry scored two goals in a 1:29 span and Braden Desmet had the other goal in the opening 3:46 of the second period, as the Yellowjackets claimed victory over Augsburg.
After a scoreless first period, Desmet opened the scoring with a goal from Corey Stark and Derek Paige at the 1:54 mark of the second frame. Berry scored his first goal from Jeff Herman and Andrew MacKenzie at the 2:17 mark, and after an Augsburg penalty at the 3:39 mark, Berry scored his second goal of the game seven seconds later, on assists from David Moncur and Aaron Berman.
Augsburg trimmed the lead at the 10:22 mark, as
Chris Johnson scored a power-play goal from
Shawn Bakke. The Auggies then held off five consecutive Yellowjacket power-play opportunities before scoring again, on a goal from
Aaron Johnson * at the 11:22 mark of the third period.
Critter Nagurski * and
Ian Bing had assists on the goal.
Wisconsin-Superior outshot Augsburg by a 29-24 margin in the game. Chad Beiswenger made 22 saves for the Yellowjackets, while
Andy Kent had 26 saves for Augsburg.
Bethel 7, Finlandia (Mich.) 4
Benoit Duhamel had two goals and added an assist to lead Bethel, as the Royals pulled away from Finlandia in the third period to claim the victory. Ryan Adams had a goal and assist, and Jeff Balvin had two assists for the Royals.
Leading 3-2 after two periods, the Royals scored four goals in the third period. Duhamel scored an unassisted goal at the 4:43 mark, followed 19 seconds later by a goal from Josh Brodeen, assisted by Duhamel and Rory Dynan. Duhamel scored his second goal of the game at the 9:42 mark from Adams, and Kent Bostrom completed the scoring with a power-play goal.
Adams opened the scoring for the Royals with a goal at the 4:21 mark of the first period, and Steve Eastman and Jon Kramer scored goals for the Royals in the second period, Eastman's goal a power-play tally.
Ryan Sullivan and Joe Beaudry scored goals for Finlandia in the second period. Blake Miller assisted on Beaudry's goal.
Bethel outshot Finlandia by a 44-27 margin, including a 19-7 edge in the third period. Dustin Thompson had 25 saves for Bethel, while Joe Juntilla made 37 saves for Finlandia.
