Hamline pulls away in second half, survives 87-74 win over Augsburg.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (2/6/06) -- Tony Thrasher (Fr., Hustisford, Wis.) scored a career-high 28 points, on 11-of-13 shooting from the field, to lead the Hamline University men's basketball team to an 87-74 win over visiting Augsburg College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Monday night at Hutton Arena.

The Pipers (9-12 overall, 8-8 MIAC) moved into a tie for fifth place in the conference with the victory.

Thrasher hit his first five shots from the field during the first half as the Pipers took a 39-22 halftime lead. Hamline shot 56 percent in the first 20 minutes.

Leading 15-14 with nearly eight minutes left in the first half, Hamline went on a 15-4 run to take command of the game. Six different Pipers scored during the spurt.

Hamline would take a 17-point lead into the break when Thrasher hit a three-pointer as time expired.

The Pipers pushed the lead to 59-33 midway through the second half before the Auggies (3-18 overall, 2-14 MIAC) made a comeback.

Thrasher led four Pipers in double figures. Charley Good (Sr., Alexandria, Minn.) added 13 points. Kyle Foster (Jr., Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview HS) had 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Ryan Montgomery (Sr., Plainview, Minn.) came off the bench to score 10.

The Pipers shot 54 percent in the game (29-of-54) and went 24-of-35 from the free throw line. Hamline outrebounded Augsburg by a 39-25 margin.

Augsburg, which lost its 11th straight game, was paced by Devin Rose's (So., Granton, Wis.) 13 points. Justin Kozlowski (So., Wausau, Wis./Wausau Newman HS) and Charlie Scott (Jr., Ely, Minn.) each added 12 points, and Kevin Keto (Jr., Forest Lake, Minn.) chipped in 11 points.

Both teams return to MIAC play on Wednesday (2/8) at 8 p.m. The Pipers will host St. Mary's, while Augsburg will host Concordia-Moorhead.
