Brian Bambenek (Jr., St. Charles, Minn.),
Ricky Schreier's (Jr., St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall HS) RBI single up the middle scored Stomberg.
In game two, UST outhit the Auggies 11-9 and took leads of 3-0, 6-2 and 8-3 before holding on.
The Auggies had two singles in the top of the seventh to put the tying runners aboard, but Riley Bosch got a fly out to end the threat. Bosch earned a save as he worked 2.2 innings in relief of Chris Bullis (4 1-3 innings, 4 ER, 6 H, 2W, 3K).
UST took a 1-0 lead as Mike Kimlinger singled, stole second and scored on Moran's RBI single. It was 3-0 in the second after Sean Young's solo homer, Louie Salmen single and a wild pitch, and Chris Carino's RBI single.
The Auggies cut the lead to 3-2 in the third on Bambenek's RBI double and Schreier's RBI single.
UST went back ahead 6-2 in the bottom of the third. Moran tripled, Jordan Roering was hit by a pitch, Young had an RBI double, Dan Leslie had an RBI ground out and Matt Pex had an RBI single.
The Toms made it 8-3 on Moran's two-run homer in the fourth inning. Moran just missed hitting for the cycle as his liner into the left-field gap in the sixth inning was caught by the Auggie leftfielder.
Augsburg's
Andy Nelson (Sr., Waseca, Minn.) singled to drive in a run in the fifth inning and came across on a fielding error. Ginther also drove in a run on a groundout in the fifth.
Schreier and Bambenek both had two hits for the Auggies.
Evan Almeroth (Sr., Coon Rapids, Minn./Meadow Creek HS) started and lasted 2.1 innings, with
Andrew Werner (So., Vermillion, Minn./Hastings HS) pitching in relief. Werner struck out three while walking two.
