ARDEN HILLS, Minn. (5/8/06) -- Dane Hansen (Sr., Roseville, Minn.) went 7-for-9 at the plate, scoring three runs and driving in four, while also collecting the pitching win in the first game, as Bethel University scored a doubleheader sweep of visiting Augsburg College in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finale for both teams on Monday afternoon at Hargis Park.
Bethel blanked Augsburg 8-0 in the first game, then hit three home runs and accumulated nine extra-base hits in slamming the Auggies 19-3 in the nightcap. Bethel finishes its season at 18-19 overall, 12-8 in MIAC play, while Augsburg finishes 18-19-1 overall, 8-12 in MIAC play.
The Royals collected 16 hits in the first game and 19 in the second game against six Auggie pitchers.
In the first contest, leadoff hitter Brandon Carr (So., Fergus Falls, Minn.) went 4-for-4 with a triple, stolen base and two runs scored, while Kirby Carr (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Hansen went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Kris Pulford (So., Richfield, Minn.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Meanwhile, Augsburg was limited to just four hits, singles by
Nate Jackson (Jr., Richfield, Minn.),
Jeff Stomberg (So., Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) and
Mark Bauer (Jr., Hastings, Minn.), along with a double by
Darren Ginther (Sr., Crystal, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS). Hansen struck out four while walking one in six innings of work for the Royals.
In the second game, the Royals' T.J. Therrien (Sr., Spring Lake Park, Minn.) fell a single short of hitting for the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple and home run. He drove in four runs while scoring twice. Meanwhile, Hansen went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI and a double. Tyler Kramer (So., Maplewood, Minn./Concordia Academy HS) went 3-for-4 with a homer, double, four RBI and two runs scored; Ted Erickson (Jr., Blaine, Minn.) went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI; and Travis Wermedal (Sr., Wells, Minn./United South Central HS) had a home run in going 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored.
Meanwhile, Augsburg's Stomberg and
Rick Andersen (So., Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS) had two hits each, with each adding a double. Gtinther had a double and two RBI, and Jackson and
Dusty Hinz (Fr., Richfield, Minn.) had the other Auggie hits.
