Augsburg claims six titlists, wins Dickinson State (N.D.) Blue Hawk Classic!

DICKINSON, N.D. (1/6/07) -- The Augsburg College wrestling team earned six individual titles and claimed the team championship at the Dickinson State University Blue Hawk Classic, held Saturday at Weinbergen Hall Gymnasium.

The Auggies, ranked No. 1 in the latest NCAA Division III national rankings by the National Wrestling Coaches Association, won the team title with 137.5 points. Host Dickinson State, ranked No. 4 in the latest NAIA national rankings, finished second with 121 points with three champions. Chadron State (Neb.) was third with 97.5 points.

Quincy Osborn (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) earned the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler honors for the Auggies, winning the title at 141 pounds with two pins and a major decision. Osborn, ranked No. 2 in the Division III individual national rankings at 141, topped Montana State-Northern's Chris Smith, ranked No. 7 in the NAIA national rankings, 7-1 in the title match.

With four victories, Augsburg 165-pounder Marcus LeVesseur (Sr., Minneapolis, Minn./Bloomington Kennedy HS) claimed his weight class and improved his collegiate winning streak to 133 straight matches. LeVesseur, who won Division III national titles at 157 pounds three times (2003, 2004, 2005), has the second-longest winning streak in college wrestling history, behind the 159 of Cael Sanderson at Iowa State (1998-2002). LeVesseur has yet to lose a college wrestling match and is 9-0 this season.

Jared Evans (Sr., Blue Earth, Minn./Blue Earth Area HS), ranked No. 4 nationally at 149, claimed his weight class title, as did Robbie Gotreau (Jr., Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson HS) at 174. Gotreau is currently ranked No. 6 nationally at 184. At 157, top-ranked Jeremy Anderson (Jr., Thief River Falls, Minn.) and teammate Josh Hansen (Sr., Albert Lea, Minn.) shared the weight-class title.

Augsburg will compete at the National Wrestling Coaches Association/Cliff Keen Division III National Duals next Saturday and Sunday (1/20-21) at the University of Northern Iowa's UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
