Augsburg splits with No. 6-ranked St. Olaf, losing 6-5, winning 12-11!

Baseball trades one-run games with Auggies

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The St. Olaf baseball team split a pair of one-run games with Augsburg College, winning the first 6-5 before falling in the night cap 12-11, on Thursday at Mark Almli Field.

The split leaves St. Olaf (27-6, 14-4 MIAC) in a three-way tie atop the MIAC standings with the University of St. Thomas and Gustavus Adolphus College with one series remaining. The Oles meet the Gusties on Saturday in St. Peter.

Game One: St. Olaf 6, Augsburg 5
Andrew Schmiesing drove in the game-winning run in the sixth with a double.

St. Olaf, which scored the game's last six runs, erased a 5-0 Augsburg lead in the fourth inning. The Oles plated four runs in that frame on a pair of hits, two of Augsburg's six errors and a walk.

The Auggies' Eric Olson * was 2-for-3 in the loss.

Game Two: Augsburg 12, St. Olaf 11
Augsburg gained an 11-5 lead and held off St. Olaf for the 12-11 win.

The Oles outhit Augsburg 17-13 and had a 4-for-4 outing from Josh Maus and a 4-for-5 game from Chris Terrazas.

Terrazas led off the seventh with a double that hit the top of the left field fence. After Josh Schulthies and Luke Gagnon were retired, Carson Jones lined out to end the game.

Schmiesing was 3-for-5 with three runs and nearly broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth - with two outs and the bases loaded he flied out to the left field warning track.

Craig Henry was 4-for-4 with three doubles and Aaron Hazen 3-for-4 for the Auggies.
